The federal government could make it much easier to accurately check legal status. Having an online photo of the person that holds a particular social security number would go along ways towards that end. Only employers with a federal tax ID should be able to access that information. By simply confirming that the social security number matches the persons picture would dramatically improve knowing if it is real or not. The employer could even report that it doesn’t appear to match and have someone from the federal government review it.

That would work but smells of “Big Brother” creep.

I say build a wall, enable local and state law enforcement to enforce federal law and send illegals back to their homes when they are found.

How would the government collect photos to correspond to every social security number? From motor vehicle databases? Otherwise, we would all have to be issued with IDs. I'm not sure how this would work logistically.

They don't have to be citizens to have a tamper proof ID. That was the hogwash on the Sunday shows. Why id'ng people has to come with benefits of citizenship is beyond me.

Just id them and they do not get citizenship. If they don't like it, they can leave.
