01 06 2007 Last Friday’s Life in Kosovo TV show turned into controversial debate about women's role in Islam and the importance of wearing a scarf.
Among the subjects raised in the discussion were how women are perceived by their families and society and the barriers and challenges a veiled woman has to face in her everyday life.
These issues were discussed by the following panelists:
Visare Gorani-Gashi - Kosovo prime minister's office; Zake Prelvukaj - painter; Besa Ismajli - interpreter; Suela Dibra - psychologist; Idriz Kosova - theologian.
Ismajli explained why she had decided to cover herself, “I found myself, my faith and the reason for my existence in God.”
But according to Ismajli, it was more difficult to convince her family that it was the right thing to do.
Prelvukaj insisted that she was first and forement an Albanian and then a Muslim. “If I’m not covered it doesn’t mean that I don’t believe in God,” she said.

Ping!
The last stanza from "Sailing to Byzantium" (Yeats)
Once out of nature I shall never take
My bodily form from any natural thing,
But such a form as Grecian goldsmiths make
Of hammered gold and gold enamelling
To keep a drowsy Emperor awake;
Or set upon a golden bough to sing
To lords and ladies of Byzantium
Of what is past, or passing, or to come.
I betcha that reporter for BIRN is going to really embarrassed when he finds out he's been had.
By the way, Kosovo is not Albania. If you do a Google search I'm sure you can find maps of the region that might help out your understanding of the geography over there.
This is about Kosovo, NOT Albania!
I noticed that someone beat me to that fact, but it obviously bears repeating!
You can check out UN resolution 1244 if you like.
I agree with Vladimir Putin. Independence for Kosovo will open a pandora's box where claims are self determination are more important than territorial integrity. The hungarians in Rumania, slovakia, transdienester, south ossetia, and probably one day California, the list goes on and on and chaos will ensue.
Aren’t you embarrassed enough by now?
Nothing to be embarrassed about, I’m not afraid to honestly face the historical truth.
Now you, on the other hand ....
So, with all the glaring inaccuracies that have been pointed out to you so far with regards to historical truth you are still choosing to keep your head parked in the sand. That’s fine, we’ll be here to repeatedly laugh at you.
What inaccuracies?
Are you saying Serbia WASN’T involved in genocides? That they DIDN’T stomp on their neighbors for the “crime” of declaring independence? Hey, I got it right.
You’re so caught up in your historical revisionism, you’ve lost all sight of the real truth.
I imagine you’re gonna be really ticked when Kosovo finally (and inevitably) becomes independent this summer, right?
Bwaaahahahaha
Sure, if you believe the MSM, and if you do, then why are you here on FR? You see, there goes one of those glaring inaccuracies again, Kosovo is Serbian territory so how can it be considered a "neighbor"? Is this some sort of Canadian logic?
By your ill-conceived logic the US should provide independence to the South Western United States due to demographics, but you're Canadian, so we don't expect much intellectual capital out of you. With your head still firmly in the sand and your ass protruding skyward, someone might mistaken you for a bike rack, which may not be all that bad considering this is the only value I can possibly see you providing.
