While in Hilo last year, I found the people open and loving. While some are impoverished, by our standards, they are happy. The joy in their lives is called “the breath of life”.
When the first sailors landed, the people found them to be very stern, “without the breath of life” or, in their language, haole.
We have required them to need us, our money and possessions. Some resist, just as the Native Americans did. They want to lead their lives just as true conservatives do, without government intervention, and on our own terms.
Bully for you.
While some are impoverished, by our standards, they are happy.
Wow, you really know these people very intimately, indeed.
The joy in their lives is called the breath of life.
Citation, please. Other than a vacation brochure.

This is hoax etymology. The Hawaiian for "without breath" is hae'okina not haole. Its usage far predated the first Western sailors - it was used to describe any intruder or interloper disliked by the community.
In modern parlance it is used by ethnic Hawaiians - 99% of whom neither speak nor understand the Hawaiian language - as an anti-white slur.
We have required them to need us, our money and possessions.
Poppycock. Like all people, they like nice things and want to have them.
Some resist, just as the Native Americans did.
Resist what? Going into Starbucks? Watching American Idol?
They want to lead their lives just as true conservatives do, without government intervention, and on our own terms.
Uh-huh. That's why they enjoy enormous amounts of federal largesse and the highest state taxes in the Union.
Spare me the "noble savage" claptrap.
Haole is a racist word used by racist losers who are complete failures in life.
