DNA indicates that Chinese tiger farm tiger meat was served at a restaurant.
Enviros are worried that if tiger farms are allowed to sell tiger meat, parts, hides, etc. that poachers will kill wild tigers

Tiger meat was served at a restaurant in China, and CITES personnel and environmentalists are upset.
The core issue is whether CITES forbids tigers being kept as livestock, cage grown and harvested for profit. Of possible interest is the historic fact that the animal from which our cattle were derived, Bos primogens, is now extinct.
Said extinction was partly due to it being a huge and ill tempered beast, dangerous to have in the neighborhood. Because cattle could be domesticated and had economic value, they are everywhere.
The lesson is clear - make tigers economically viable livestock and they will survive. If not, then not.

I'd imagine that tigers being so strong and skinny, they'd be kinda tough. Do you think the restaurateur broke with tradition and actually served this with knives? Or did they try to pick it apart with chopsticks.
I hate it when newspapers leave out the most relevant parts of the story.

Tigers breed very easily in captivity. Why would you go to the expense, wait, danger and inconvenience of hunting, preserving and shipping a tiger, when you could have one right next to your facilities ready for processing?
“Wild-caught tiger” has a certain cachet, perhaps. The upscale establishments might prefer it.

"Wild tiger" (like wild salmon, apparently) would have a slightly different taste? Well, heck, through the miracle of modern chemistry...
