Hamas Seizes Control of Main Gaza Road as Civil War Breaks Out

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — Fierce battles over key security positions spread to central Gaza early Wednesday, with Hamas fighters wresting control of the coastal strip's main north-south road — and putting themselves in position to cut off reinforcements to beleaguered Fatah forces.

In the southern town of Khan Younis, a one-ton bomb planted in an underground tunnel tore through the headquarters of a security force loyal to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah, said Ali Qaisi, a presidential guard spokesman. At least one person was killed and eight others were injured, medics said.

...
The violence in Gaza has rapidly spiraled toward all-out civil war, with more than 50 reported killed since Monday. Hamas has systematically taken control of security positions in the north and south, apparently leaving the main battle for the strip's security and political nerve center in Gaza City for last.

Iran and Syria won 2 coastal islamo-enclaves - Gaza and N Lebanon. This is the opening shot of the expected summer war.

Hamas Seizes Control of Main Gaza Road as Civil War Breaks Out

Don't you have to have a viable country before civil war can break out?
Just saying.

And why is it that the word is always used when referring to occupied West and East Israel, but never when reporting on African countries that are similarly invaded by outsiders?

Just asking®

A Hamas victory in this little conflagration will actually be to Israel's advantage -- since Hamas makes no bones about its desire to commit genocide against Israel, there's no room for the usual suspects (ie. the US State Department) to call for 'restraint' when Israel retaliates.

Of course, they will anyway -- once again pointing out their own hypocrisy.

Well, going into hospitals and shooting people is one way to reduce healthcare costs...

And at that point, Israel is perfectly within its rights to tell our Foggy Bottom weenies to STFU.

Can this be contained or is it just more of the same war going on all over the ME?

See May 18th post: Moonlighting Palestinians
They can't even protect themselves. The Palestinians are having what appears to be a civil war. [Their government disintegrated much faster than the Iraqi government in part because Israel left the playing field precipitously; this is a warning.] The war is not between those in power and those out - it is more like conjoined twins fighting for control of the body. The U.S. is training one army of the government against another army of the government but, according to reports from the area, Fatah, including American-trained forces, have been almost entirely ineffectual against Hamas. Fatah is pleading for more weapons, as if what is lacking in Gaza is weapons.

What is lacking in Gaza is a clear-eyed understanding of the disintegration of Palestinian society at the hands of its own leadership. It was said that when Hamas had to govern it would become more moderate or at least more attuned to the people who elected it - the "pothole" theory of governance. In fact, Hamas is fighting Fatah for control in order to freely pursue its terrorist agenda against Israel. And despite American help - or because it only saw our help as a means to an entirely different end - Fatah is in no position to advance its own goals (not that those are so great, either).

Not really. Considering the espionage acts Israel commits against the U.S., and selling sensitive U.S. technology to China, they are the ones that should STFU.

if Fatah is clearly beaten in gaza, the door is open to Israel to wipe out Hamas and clear the strip. the problem which will arise is that Hamas is not in charge in Judea and Samaria. Fatah will hang on there and the Foggy Bottom’less’ (bottom feeder) “foreign policy experts” will push more strongly for Israeli “compromises” in these areas to prevent a takeover by the “radical” terrorists from the “moderate” terrorists.

Remember, their experience with guns is limited to firing them in the air. Unless they break out the suicide vests, this will not be a gun battle. Just scattered massacres of unarmed people.
