( MSNBC Article from March 2006, but just as important, if not more so, now. The issue of the ID theft of Americans by illegals was dismissed by Ted Kennedy - and by those who agree with him - as just a "garden variety crime". )
ARTICLE: "In the noisy immigration debate raging in Washington, there is one voice NOT being heard.
The voice of identity theft victims.
Behind many of the nations millions of undocumented workers are someone else's documents. To get a job, illegal immigrants need a Social Security number, and they often borrow one. As victim Melody Millet is fond of saying, U.S. citizens are being forced to share their identities with undocumented immigrants to give corporate America a steady supply of cheap labor."

I came across this rather disturbing site. I entered my name and birthday with more than a little skepticism and was shocked to see my driver’s licence number appear.

Raid on Portland plant uncovers hundreds of illegal workers
June 12, 2007
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Federal agents raided offices at a food processing plant Tuesday after an undercover investigation found that hundreds of illegal workers were using Social Security numbers that belonged to somebody else or were made up.According to an affidavit filed by an immigration agent, an undercover informant told managers of both Del Monte and American Staffing Resources that he was not in the country legally and did not have proper identification for work. An employee of the staffing company gave him a counterfeit Social Security card and later gave him counterfeit Social Security and Resident Alien cards for others, the affidavit said.
A federal judge authorized agents to search for evidence of violations such as hiring illegal aliens, identity theft and Social Security fraud, according to the U.S. attorney's office in Portland.
I believe this one issue alone, if more Americans were aware of it, would sink the Amnesty & Rewards bill.
Even if a person hasn’t personally been a victim of ID theft, s/he likely knows someone who has or is aware of the real-life horror stories of reputations and lives left in ruins.
“It was at these locations where officials arrested three managers for knowingly hiring undocumented workers and supplying them with false documentation.”

GOOD !
Enough raids like this and the “word will get out”. Managers will starting wising up and not stick their necks out. Then the illegals will not get jobs so no jobs = no dinero, head on home back over the border!
Cut the head of the snake off!
It’s bad enough to reward an illegal for the crime of crossing the border, but this amnesty bill does NOTHING about trying to redress an act that would constitute felony identity theft for you and me.
“this amnesty bill does NOTHING about trying to redress an act that would constitute felony identity theft for you and me.”
Exactly. Bad enough that someone has no hesitance to violate a nation’s border, but to steal the most personal of information and destroy the lives of a nations citizens shouldn’t be a negotiable item.
I’ve been a victim. we know for sure that someone is (or at least was) operating as me in CT, and perhaps one in CA .. a very disturbing feeling. I’m just hoping their contributions to MY SS are helpful ;)
This is a good action!
However, waiting in the wings is the ACLU or another entity to sue them for violations of their civil rights. (Luckily it wasn’t in Mass, or Ted Kennedy and John Kerry would get face time complaining on the Feds abuse of families.
Hey, if a working illegal wants to use my SS number, more power to him. Ny account could use his contributions.
If we build it they won’t come

Those guys better do MAJOR time. Or all of the rest of the shamnesty bill will be nothing but pretty window dressing. The employers and facilitators need to do years in jail.
Three years ago, Social Security did the next-best thing, sending letters to some employers with large lists of people paying taxes using the wrong SSN. As workers scattered, seeing the letters as tantamount to a deportation notice, immigration rights groups protested. The letters were immediately withdrawn. And here we sit.
We could solve this problem immediately.
Hi, Trav,
I'll bet that all they'll get is a slap on the wrist, but I'll keep track of this story and see how it plays out.
Yeah, after the 86 Simpson Mazolli Bill, the employers are REAL scared of enforcement......not.
Just say NO to Amnesty!! Keep calling!! Its NOT OVER!!
