Look, if we must have migrant farm workers or if meat packing companies must have low-wage workers, I’m all for anyone from any country coming in on a “Guest” worker visa. My problem is that we are trying to make these “Guests” citizens and giving them benefits for which we will be hard-pressed to pay. The only reason their wages are low now is because the tax payers of America are subsidizing their wages through the welfare system. That takes the burden off the employer to pay a decent wage, since the rest of the low-wage worker’s pay is made up by our tax dollars. Excuse me if I whine.

That starts a revolving door of once a citizen, they will demand the wages most of us require (or they will stay in the welfare system) which will start another round of requirements for low-wage workers.

If they are going to work here doing seasonal or low-wage work as “Guests”, I sure don’t want them exploited by employers who are already exploiting us. When they retire, will they return to their country of origin and live like poshas? I think not. This is not a good way to run a country. No way, no how.

The fact that some Americans seize upon a certain ethnicity or a certain form of breaking the law still doesn’t make the case for this being a not being a raw deal all the way around, and it doesn’t keep me from seeing down the line to where this will lead. I’d rather send aid directly to each illegal in their country of origin. It would be infinitely cheaper and we could all settle down.

That’s how I meant it to read. Oops.

"I’m all for anyone from any country coming in on a “Guest” worker visa."

I commend you for the first honest attempt to find a solution on the thread yet.

The source of the problem is a huge hole in our labor pool. As long as that remains unfilled, there will be illegals coming.

Minus illegal labor, we are on the order of 10-20 million bodies short to fill the low skill jobs that need filling.

That is the cause, everything else is a symptom.
