WILMINGTON, Del. - Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani, in an indirect swipe at President Bush, said Thursday the overwhelming attitude that the U.S. is headed in the wrong direction reflects a lack of leadership.
The nation's bleak mood was evident in the most recent Associated Press-Ipsos poll in which only 21 percent said they believe things in the U.S. are heading in the right direction, the worst mark since the AP-Ipsos poll began in December 2003.
Speaking at a Flag Day rally in Wilmington, Del., Giuliani told more than 200 supporters: "What we're lacking is strong, aggressive, bold leadership like we had with Ronald Reagan."
The same AP-Ipsos poll found public approval with the job Bush is doing at 32 percent, matching an all-time low.
The former New York mayor said he's running for president to keep the United States on offensive against terrorist and to challenge big government.
Before the rally, Guiliani attended a $1,000-a-plate fundraising breakfast that drew about 120 people.
He was joined at the rally by former FBI director Louis Freeh. Freeh, who lives in Wilmington, Del., serves as senior homeland security adviser for Guiliani campaign and heads the candidate's Delaware campaign.
Giuliani was making his second campaign appearance in Delaware this year. While the state has only three electoral votes, Guiliani said it could play a crucial role in the presidential race.
"When you look at 2000 and 2004, one state makes a difference," he told reporters after the rally. "You never know which one it's going to be."

Whatever. During 9-11 he was grace under pressure. Compare him to the Dem, Kathleen Blanco, who cried on cnn during hurricane Katrina. Rudy can capitalize on his performance during 9-11, because it was exemplary. You don’t want to vote for him because of his stance on other issues? Fine. But he was $$ during 9-11.
If Rudy becomes president, look for gum spitting and j-walking to become felony level offenses.
Look for Rico to be misused even more than when he was a federal prosecutor.
The guy scares me more than Hillary. Everyone, even her supporters, know she is a phony. Rudy has some people fooled because they listen to his BS, rather than looking at his history.

He gave some strong speeches while Pataki bumbled about, as usual.
I’ll give him credit for that. And, he was MUCH better than the failed mayoralty of Dinkins. I’ll give him that.
But a “conservative,” no way. Absolutely no way. He himself ran under the Republican and Liberal parties in NYC.
And, his misuse of RICO as a federal prosecutor is all in the record. How he destroyed innocent people’s lives, making them do the “perp walk.”
I could see him in charge of Homeland Security, not as Chief Executive or AG.
And, not to lay into you (we just disagree on Rudy), but comparing him to Blanco, a total incompetent, is damnation by faint praise if I ever heard it....

I don’t disagree with that. One thing is for sure, and I would say this about W. as well, everyday Rudy would wake up in the white house, his first thought would be to find and kill the bastards that want to terrorize the country.

I agree that he would do that. And that is terrifically important. What scares me though is his over-reach. When I lived in NY during his mayoralty, he became a petty tyrant after crime dropped, no-knock Rico raids went way up with some nasty consequences to innocents. He started urging the police to aggresively go after J-walkers and people who spit gum. He was becoming unpopular, then 9/11 happened and he WAS strong, compared to that dolt, Pataki. Now, he uses 9/11 and wants people to ignore the bad stuff. Just like John Kerry did with Vietnam.
The only person that would make Blanco look good by comparison would be Nagin, who left the busses in the flood zone.
Rudy would be much better at anything than those two boobs....
Unless of course they were illegal aliens, then they would be covered by the new national "sanctuary" policy.

One other thing — If I can’t compare Rudy G to Blanco in order to prop him up, you can’t compare him to the undashing doofus from Taxachussetts.
He is correct, but he's CERTAINLY not the man for the job!
We have too many politicians running around trying to be “leaders” instead of “servants.”
