Radical Activists Plunge America Deeper Into Debate Over Marriage

WASHINGTON, DC - The Alliance for Marriage, who drafted the Marriage Protection Amendment (MPA) before Congress, warned today’s vote by the Massachusetts legislature to deny the people of Massachusetts a right to vote on the future of marriage will only plunge our nation deeper into a debate over marriage and the family under our laws.

“Today’s vote by the legislature to stop the marriage amendment from reaching the people of Massachusetts is only the beginning,” said Matt Daniels, president and founder of the Alliance for Marriage. “Radical activists will now move to strike the 1913 law in Massachusetts requiring state residency for a marriage license, in a determined effort to export the destruction of marriage across state lines.”

“As designed, activists from all 50 states will travel to Massachusetts, obtain a marriage license and then sue in federal court to strike down any laws (or state amendments) protecting marriage in other states,” added Daniels. “It is intended to make sure Massachusetts “gay marriages” become the new social norm for America. This is nothing short of a plan to create a national blitz of lawsuits challenging state marriage laws, state marriage amendments, and the 1996 federal Defense of Marriage Act.”

“America will continue on a collision course with the courts over the future of marriage,” added Daniels. “AFM’s Marriage Protection Amendment is clearly the only hope for the American people to determine the future of marriage under our laws.” The Alliance for Marriage, who drafted the federal Marriage Protection Amendment (MPA) and is the leading national group spearheading the MPA before Congress, called on Congressional Leadership to act on the Amendment.

“Most Americans believe that gays and lesbians have a right to live as they choose. But they don’t believe they have a right to redefine marriage for our entire society,” said Daniels.

Read it and weep. Our society is in freefall.

God help us.
