Letter from Sen. Boxer (CA) on Immigration "Reform"
Email | 6/14/2007 | Mariner

Posted on 6/14/2007, 10:14:45 PM by Mariner

Recieved from Sen. Boxer Dear Mr. xxx:

Thank you for contacting me to express your views on immigration reform. I appreciate hearing from you.

As you may know, the Senate recently debated S.1348, the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007.

In its current form, this bill is unworkable and unfair. I am particularly troubled by its proposal to create a new guestworker program. I have always had problems with guestworker programs because I believe they lead to increased illegal immigration, a downward pressure on American wages, and a loss of workplace protections.

That is why on June 7, 2007, I joined 49 other Senators in rejecting cloture, thereby preventing the bill from proceeding to a final vote. Be assured that I will keep working to fix our broken immigration system in a manner that protects American workers and reduces illegal immigration.

Again, thank you for writing to me. Please feel free to contact me again about this or any other issue of concern to you.

Barbara Boxer United States Senator ay:

Gee, on this issue the super-liberal seems more reasonable than our President.

I couldn’t say it any better than how you said it.

She is only following orders from her biggest supporters, the AFL-CIO.

This is the FIRST time I have ever agreed with this woman.

The world really *has* turned upside-down!

The same with my liberal senator Debbie Stabenow. And I know that Senator KKK Byrd is against it also. Read Stabenows letter to me below:

Thank you . . .

. . . for contacting me about the issue of immigration. I appreciate you sharing your views with me.

As you know, the United States Senate passed legislation last year in response to the serious problems with our nation's immigration system. While I consistently voted for tough enforcement provisions and to provide the resources necessary to secure our borders, I voted against this final bill because it would not have done enough to protect Michigan jobs. Also, I continue to oppose amnesty and Social Security for illegal immigrants.

The Senate has been debating new immigration legislation this year. I oppose this bill for the same reasons I voted against last year's legislation.

President Bush's new guest worker program, contained in both bills, opens our borders to hundreds of thousands of new guest workers every year. Importing cheap foreign labor is wrong for Michigan and wrong for America . We need an effective immigration system that works for businesses and communities and that protects the basic rights of legal immigrants, who are such an important part of our state economy. In the end, this legislation failed to strike the proper balance between security, fairness and preserving Michigan jobs.

Thank you for contacting my office. I will keep your strong views in mind if the Senate considers this issue again. Please continue to keep me informed about issues that are important to you and your family.

Sincerely, Debbie Stabenow United States Senator

Whatever her reason kudos from me to her for it.

I received a similar letter from her. Though I disagree with her reasoning, at least in my letter, the result is the same in this case.

I got the same “form” letter and I wouldn’t trust that woman for all the tea in China. They’re playing games big time. I don’t care which side of the aisle they’re on, they’re all “in your face” arrogant, corrupt, power-hungry, and ego maniacs. Hence, the American people need to clean out the Congress and start over.

Yes, I was totally surprised by her actions. Evidently she has a slightly larger brain than DiFi, because she can see the handwrting on the wall for any career politician that votes for Amnesty. Boxer voted TWICE for cloture, simply amazing!

Agreed. Although to my knowledge...one of the california senators is fairly good on immigration...can’t remember which one. Could be her.

That’s one issue of coarse, and I wouldn’t vote for her just on that.

But you must remember the union is actually supporting a path to legalization. They’re betting on weird odds and really dividing the union.

Here is her response from last week. This was left out of your response.

On May 22, 2007, I was an original co-sponsor of an amendment to strike the guest worker program from the larger bill. Although this measure failed, I subsequently supported a successful amendment to cut the guestworker program in half. Be assured that I will keep working to improve the immigration bill and reduce illegal immigration.

She is NOT against illegals/amnesty etc. This is simply a set up for a Republican downfall. They’re blaming this entire mess on the Republicans so they can garner points for the Congress Critters that ran on a “no amnesty” promise in the ‘06 election. Got to get them re-elected. Do you actually think that Barbara Boxer would do ANYTHING positive for America over getting herself and her “party” re-elected?

Business loves cheap labor, labor unions do not. That said, I agree that a big increase in temporary workers hurts working class Americans as a group, including both blue and white collar workers. Be very wary though if democrats are able to water down or remove the guest worker provisions in the Senate bill, since they are unlikely to oppose the amnesty portions of the bill. The AFL-CIO leadership does not oppose the new Z classifications offered to illegal aliens residing here now, although many of their individual members do not agree with them, particularly those who work in the private industry sectors.

Yes. I’m amazed. Barbara seems to have had a transient moment of lucidity—not complete lucidity, mind you—but not total opacity either. I wish George W. Bush would have one.
