It appears that now, it is legal for West Virginia concealed carry permits to carry in Ohio and Florida. Soon, it will likely be legal to carry in North Carolina and South Dakota.
Please remember that when carrying in another state, the laws of that state apply when you are carrying. Ohio has numerous regulations on the conduct of individuals who are lawfully carrying concealed handguns, including types of places where carrying is prohibited and unique rules for carrying in a vehicle. Specific information on Ohios concealed carry and car carry laws can be found on pages 14-22 of the Ohio AGs concealed carry law publication at http://www.ag.state.oh.us/le/prevention/pubs/cc_booklet20070314.pdf
Because of the problems we experienced with the announcement of West Virginias establishment of reciprocity with Ohio, we have been working to independently verify from each of West Virginias new reciprocal states whether they understand the reciprocity agreements to be effective. Of these states, all but North Carolina have been able to provide independent confirmation through their official reciprocity web sites. We are working diligently to verify the status of the West Virginia-North Carolina reciprocity agreement.
Until we can confirm reciprocity with the North Carolina AGs office, we continue to caution against carrying in North Carolina with only a West Virginia permit. You may carry a concealed handgun in North Carolina with a permit issued by any state on North Carolinas reciprocity list without regard to whether you are a resident of that state. The North Carolina reciprocity list is located at

The WVCDL web site will be updated this evening to reflect these developments.

Good for you. Now find out if WV will honor the Florida non resident permit. If they do, toss your WV ticket and get the Florida CWP. 27 states honor the Florida non - resident permit, Michigan and New Hampshire insist on the resident ticket.
www.handgunlaw.us is showing reciprocity between WV and NC.
Yeah I know that, but I havent seen any mention of it on the North Carolina AGs website..that’s why I’m reluctant. Granted, I haven’t looked in a couple of days, so it may have been recently posted.
My ideal goal is to be able to carry from West Virgina through Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Ga and into Fla for my vacation without me having to get a non rez permit.
The legislators I know tell me this is a possibility. Apparently Georgia is the hard nut to crack.
What are Ohio’s unique laws for carrying in a car.
Bttt
To be honest, I am unsure..I THINK it means you have to take your sidearm out and make it visible when youre driving. This may mean laying the gun in the seat of the car.
My state has an agreement with the other 49 states, it is: Keep your concealed guns out of Illinois.
(One of the many reasons I’m looking for real estate in Missouri)
Hope you achieve your goal. I’m tickled that WV now honors NC. NC Reciprocity should probably be forthcoming.
Here is car carry in Ohio, from Packing.org
Individuals with a license to carry a concealed handgun may transport a loaded handgun if:
The loaded handgun is in a holster on the persons person.
The loaded handgun is in a closed case, bag, box, or other container that is in plain sight and that has a lid, a cover, or a closing mechanism with a zipper, snap, or buckle, which lid, cover, or closing mechanism must be opened for a person to gain access to the handgun.
The loaded handgun is securely encased by being stored in a closed, locked glove compartment or in a case that is locked.
The most significant change to Ohio Law from HB347 is that you no longer “must” carry your firearm in the vague definition of “plain sight”. However, it is important to understand that any time a firearm is not locked up it must be on your person and in a holster. You may not jam it in between your seat and center console, nor may you store it on your dash. Openly carrying a loaded handgun in a vehicle requires a concealed handgun license.
For us here in Virginia, South Carolina is the one we need. Otherwise I can carry from Virginia south and west through the gulf states on my VA resident and NH non-res permits.
I've had a CPL here in Michigan for almost 20 years now, and was quite happy to see Ohio get their law straightened out. We go to Toledo for dinner regularly and it was so confusing with the "plain sight" stipulation.
My impression is that GA is pretty good about giving reciprocity, to states that give us reciprocity.
Yeah, SC is a PITA, isn’t it? No reciprocity there, for us Georgians, either. Otherwise, I’m good in all the adjacent states.
