You can't say I didn't warn you. The immigration bill is coming back, probably as early as next week. That's what Senators Harry Reid (D.-Nev.) and Mitch McConnell (R.-Ky.) agreed to today, leaving conservatives on Capitol Hill disappointed and alarmed.
A conservative Senate GOP aide told me McConnell caved under pressure from the White House and Democrats. "They are going to roll over conservatives. They scheduled debate time and a vote for next week knowing full well that Jeff Sessions would be out of town."
Sessions, a vocal opponent, will be in Alabama for a fundraiser with President Bush next Thursday. Sessions teamed with Senators Jim DeMint (R.-S.C.) and David Vitter (R.-La.) last week to take a principled stand against the bill despite tremendous pressure from its supporters. Sessions' absence would put conservatives at a significant disadvantage.

They've rigged it so Jeff Sessions will be out of town during the debate and vote.

Maybe me need to call Sessions and beg him to cancel that appointment. The country is far more important.

They’re going to roll over 80% of the American Citizens who don’t want this bill.

One question. If Sessions is so important, and also principled, can he not alter his plans to go to fricking Alabama for a fricking fund-raiser, given that an important vote (he
is a legislator, right? that
is his job, correct?) has been scheduled for that same time? On an issue he (supposedly) cares deeply about and (supposedly) is extremely principled about?
Just asking.
Sorry, but "I, a Congressman, can't possibly participate in this important debate and vote because I'm GOING TO ALABAMA FOR A FUNDRAISER and that is an inalterable fact that can't possibly be changed" really just doesn't cut it for me. Or it does, but then I have to wonder about the whole "principled" thing.

Don't be surprised if they ask you in Spanish.

A fundraiser for Bush can't be worth much money nowadays. Unless they are having it with La Raza or LULAC....

I think Reid - McConnell purposely scheduled it to make it difficult for Sessions. Don’t know if he’ll stiff the President or not.

I wonder when this was planned. Next question, was this part of the fix? It does seem strange or convenient that Bush and Sessions will be together. I do expect Sessions to address this “inconvenient truth.”
To: Snoopers-868th
Yes. Would love to be a fly on the wall if Sessions told no one and just showed up.

I don’t know who the fundraiser is for, but you’re right, Bush being there probebly won’t help unless it’s with businesses that use illegal labor.
