Ongoing operations in eastern Anbar work to oust al Qaeda

As the Baghdad Security Plan progresses, a key element of the plan is securing the "belts" outside Baghdad province. The Baghdad Belts include Eastern Anbar province, northern Babil province, southern Salahadin and south and western Diyala. Securing eastern Anbar province, which includes the strategically important city of Fallujah, is vital in tamping down the insurgency.

He noted al Qaeda's tactics are backfiring, as the wholesale murder of civilians is turning the population against the terror group.

Good to see that the Iraqis are invested in their own security. The tribal coalitions are also very interesting.

The tribval chiefs are allying with us against AlQaeda.

Anbar, wehre there used to be 37 attacks a day, is down to less than one.

Baghdad is much more secure than it used to be.

The terrorists are seeking a cease-fire. (Bush will probably give it to them so they can rearm just like LBJ, whom he increasingly resembles, did for the VC.)

All that means that we’re winning.

As a result, teh “loyal” opposition is in a panic. it looks like we may win this war before they have a chance to lose it. That can’t be allowed.

Outstanding article, the most informative single piece I’ve yet read on the turnaround taking place in the Anbar province. The get out of Iraq now crowd should open their minds long enough to read and consider what is really starting to take place in Iraq.

Only an ostrich or worse can not see that the plan has been working. It is a matter of time. I believe al Anbar will far exceed "benchmarks" applied, whereas the capital of the country still has a long ways to go. Then again, if once the major thrust (surge) is put into action, one sees Sadr totally be put down and the majority of Shia/Sunni/other Iraqi side with the government forces and the US forces, who knows, this insurgency just may peter out in a half year or so. Perhaps sooner, if all the baddies are literally killed off, arrested, and or driven out of the capital and surrounding provincial borders, into the remote areas, or out of the country.
The insurgents have been taking one hell of a beating for the last year or so. One cannot run their networks if most of the ones with some brains are in jail or popping up daisies.
