Bush Urges Hispanics To Speak Up (New Info and Quotes)
The Washington Times ^ | June 16, 2007 | Steven Dinan

President Bush yesterday told Hispanics to step into the middle of the immigration debate and make sure senators who have been bombarded with calls from opponents also hear from those who support the bill.

"There's a lot of emotion on this issue, and it makes sense to have people from around the country come and sit down with members of Congress to talk rationally about the issue," he told those attending the Hispanic Prayer Breakfast in Washington yesterday.

He was speaking a day after the bill, which collapsed last week, was revived by the top Democrat and Republican in the Senate.

Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, agreed to put the bill back on the Senate's schedule next week, and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican, agreed to limit the number of amendments Republicans would offer.

But roadblocks are already popping up.
Sen. Jim DeMint, South Carolina Republican, said he will block any attempt to send the bill to an eventual House-Senate conference, complicating the usual path a bill takes to reach the president's desk.

"Ted Kennedy has sold us another bill of goods and I don't trust him to make even more changes...

I am not hispanic but agree with Bush on this.

And considering hispanics are the largest minority in America I think they should be heard as well.

Good grief... you are so far up Bush's posterior, he can taste the Brylcreem.

hell, i am hispanic, and i am really against illegals, i came to this country legally and until now, i have been a supporter of President Bush, on the war against terror, but i am deeply saddened of what he is doing to our country, we need to call our congress and let them know what we think, as americans, as patriots.

I'm Hispanic too and I agree with you on what you say in your post. Also, I am against this Amnesty bill in the Senate. Are you for it or against it?

I lived in South Florida with the hispanic population for many years.

They were people who loved and appreciate freedom more than most native born Americans. And I loved them for this.

Okay, well you made me post it again. Don't take it out on me that you insulted most Americans with your bias. And please don't call me stupid again. Oooch, ouch that hurt.

That’s the difference and they never looked for a handout. Told them our family will be there when they get their citizenship! That is what America is all about and that has not changed from the days of Ellis Island.

What the majority of us don’t want are people that come into the country illegally. Looks at the gang problems we have in the large cities. What is the President doing about that? Does he want them to call as well?

We should start calling the Senators and complaining about Americans and asking the Senators to do something about them.

He only wants to hear from Mexicans who will vote for his nephew Jorge P. Bush. That is what all this is about. Perpetuating the dynasty.

WOW....I kept asking myself....

Self...WHY is he doing this?
