The US administration is deeply divided on how to deal with Iran's nuclear program, The New York Times reported on Saturday.
According to the paper, a split between those favoring a diplomatic solution and those demanding the use of military force had intensified.
US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and her deputies apparently hold more leverage with their stance on dealing with Teheran through negotiations, and not militarily. Members of Vice President Dick Cheney's office, who have had less influence on decision-making, were pressing for the US to put more effort into considering strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities, said the report.
Opinion: Quiet, America is sleeping
Since Rice announced the new strategy for the US to collaborate with Europe, Russia and China to pressure Iran to halt its uranium enrichment activities, Iran has installed more than a thousand centrifuges to enrich uranium. The International Atomic Energy Agency predicts that approximately 8,000 could be functioning by the end of 2007.
"Those hard numbers are at the core of the debate within the administration over whether Mr. Bush should warn Iran's leaders that he will not allow them to get beyond some yet-undefined milestones, leaving the implication that a military strike on the country's facilities is still an option," said the Times.
The US government took action Friday against two Iranians suspected of connections to Iran's nuclear program.
The Treasury Department action, part of efforts to tighten the financial vise on Teheran, is against Muhammad Qannadi and Ali Hajinia Leilabadi. Any bank accounts or other financial assets belonging to the pair found in the US must be frozen. In addition, Americans are forbidden from doing business with them. It marked the department's latest move to use targeted financial measures against Iran.
Cleanup on aisle 2.
Well yes. Iraq, just as Iran now, tried to get nukes, but was stopped by the Israelis and US. Iran awaits the same fate.
Hey Condi! Russia and China are working with Iran!
sweaty2 didn’t last long. He/she has been banned or suspended.
They have been declaring war for 30 years now. When do we clean their clock?
Maybe I dont think Iran is the enemy
Repeat:
Also know that China is involved, big time. It is believed that Russia and China are playing the same slow bleed tactic against us that we used against the Soviet Union in Afghanistan.
See Inside the Ring (China arming terrorists) here:

From the story by Gertz: The Bush administration has been trying to hide or downplay the intelligence reports to protect its pro-business policies toward China, and to continue to claim that China is helping the United States in the war on terrorism. U.S. officials have openly criticized Iran for the arms transfers but so far there has been no mention that China is a main supplier.
Who do you think is the enemy? Do you think we have an enemy?
The Iranian government is the enemy.
As are the Chinese and Russian governments.
‘sweaty2’ got banned!
I wonder if he was ‘sweaty1’ before, and whether he’ll be back as ‘sweaty3’.
Whatever it is, he'll still be 'sweaty'...clammy...and dank.
Negotiate = Do Nothing
At which point the savvy Conservative realizes he should take anything following with a huge grain of salt. Considering the way the Times has backstabbed the Administration for years now, it is doubtful these "Confidential sources" the Times claims to talk to actually are very close to the WH or Sec Rice at all. It is entirely probable they do not even exist ala Jason Blair.

Fascinating Analysis of Leftist Goals, August 13, 2006
Reviewer: N. Sincerity - See all my reviews
A former 1960s radical, Horowitz is well-acquainted with the Leftist mindset. In this book, he strives to explain the modern alliance between left wing progressivists and radical Islamofascists. He argues that this alliance is based on a common desire to destroy Western capitalism. Leftist sympathy with Islamofascist ideas makes no sense from an intellectual point of view, given that countries ruled by radical Islamists are among the most racist, sexist, theocratic states in the world today. However, Leftists have recognized that they can benefit politically from destructive terrorist attacks on the Western world. A West under attack can be made to turn on its leaders in fear and desperation (as they did in Spain after the Madrid train bombings). Only once people reject current government structures can the Left execute its anti-capitalist revolution and build a new reality that mirrors the Leftist view of utopia.
The complete and utter idealogical hypocrisy of the Islamofascist-Leftist alliance is distressing, but as Horowitz reminds us,
