Good Shot!!! Video of Canadian snipers in Afghanistan
Email ^ | Unknown | Unknown

Read email before watching video

These are some examples of the fight in Afghanistan.. These video shots are not made through the shooter's telescopic sight... they are made looking through the spotter's scope. The spotter lies right next to the sniper and helps the sniper to find and home in on the target.

The sniper is using a 50 caliber rifle. A 50 cal. round is about 7-8 inches long and the casing is about an inch in diameter. The bullet itself is one-half inch in diameter and roughly one and one-half inches long.

Pay close attention to the beginning of the video. A Taliban is lying on top of the peak in front of you... when you hear the shot fired.... watch what happens. The sniper is also about a half mile away... or more.

A Canadian sniper in Afghanistan has been confirmed as hitting an enemy soldier at a range of 2,310 meters, the longest recorded and confirmed sniper shot in history. The previous record of 2,250 meters was set by US Marine sniper Carlos Hathcock in Vietnam in 1967. The Canadian sniper was at an altitude of 8,500 feet and the target, across a valley, was at 9,000 feet. Canadian sniper units often operated in support of US infantry units, which were grateful for their help. The record lasted only one day, until a second Canadian sniper hit an enemy soldier at 2,400 meters (8000 feet).

The Canadian snipers fire special .50-calibre McMillan tactical rifles, which are bolt-action weapons with five-round magazines. The Canadian snipers were the only Canadian troops operating without hel mets or flak jackets as they had too much other equipment to carry. Each three-man team has one sniper rifle, three standard rifles (Canadian C7s), one of them with a 203mm grenade launcher.

The rifling seems to kick its target to the left upon impact.

Give em hell Harry Reid, no wait, go there with em!

The videos were made by Rocky Mountain Varmit Hunters (www.rmvh.com) and are for sale on their website. I think the scenes from your video are from Vol. II, under “Rockchucks.” You can view samples of the videos there, and in higher resolution (so it’s clear they’re shooting rockchucks). Don’t worry about being fooled. A lot of people were fooled, including me.

A 50 cal. round is about 7-8 inches long

Sounds a little long to me. IIR the overall length of a .50 is short of 6 inches. Little consolation, however, to the person on the receiving end of the transaction.

The best shot I ever made was on a marmot in the Talkeetna Mountains in Alaska back in the 1980’s. 150 meters with a scoped Ruger 10/22 using CCI .22LR Hollow Point Ammo and a lot of vertical holdover. I was on a promontory shooting to the SE at a 4-5 lb. Marmot (they grow them BIG in Alaska) on another promontory. I fired, it spun around, it disappeared. My faithful Lab Duke found the remains 50m down the cliff and brought it to me. At that range the bullet did not expand but I somehow got the bugger right thru the heart. Definitely a Hail Mary shot. I’m such a savage!

In case you're disappointed, a very graphic .50 cal head shot is posted at the bottom of this page.

Geez.. even this is not perfectly accurate. It’s been snoped. Might not be a .50 cal head shot at all.

Praire dogs are usually found in the praire, not on rock coverd mountains. Looks like some arms and other stuff flying around there.

On the east coast and south we call them ground hogs, out west the call the rock chucks are marmots, . You take one ground hog lying on a rock, take a good 243 or 270, or 25-06 , are several other small caliber high speed rounds, and shoot the rock just where the ground hog meets, touches rock, it will throw him several feet in air, but the bullet must hit the rock and then spray the animal.

“I thought I had seen some of that footage before and I’m not sure it was described as a Canadian Sniper.”

I saw the same footage months ago. Swear is was supposed to be a U.S.sniper.

Those are rock chucks. The western version of a ground hog. Probably shot with a 22-250.

I read somewhere that it wasn't. Anyway, all the ....ummm... debris..... is right there close by, as if he caught a burst while already down on the ground.

at 50cal bullet would not do that to human body at the range described. If I remember correctly the 50 cal projectile is about 750 grains (appox 1/10+ lb) and leaving the muzzle at 2600 to 3000 fps, it would no way have that kind of energy at 7000 to 8000 ft range. Maybe it was a much larger caliber??
