It is possible they will assist whatever side happens to be losing at the moment. Keep this pot boiling until all the fighters are gone.

The IDF patrolling the streets of the West Bank, to keep order? Get real!
Because it serves Israel’s interest to have two mini-Palestinian entities at emnity with each other. If Hamas has Gaza and Fatah the Cisjordan, and they are fighting each other, they have fewer resources to fight Israel, aside from the occasional Qassam. Israel only wishes it could have made the South Lebanon Army strong enough to pin down Hezbollah in Lebanon. This is sound strategy by the Israelis.
