Preview and Analysis for Weekend of June 16th and 17th, 2007

Guest lineup for the Sunday TV news shows:

NBC's "Meet the Press"
  • U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker

CBS's "Face the Nation"

  • Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky
  • Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mi
  • Lee Hamilton

Fox News Sunday

  • General David Petraeus
CNN "Late Edition"
  • Sen. Jack Reed, D-RI
  • Sen. John Cornyn, R-Tx
  • Hoshyar Zebari
  • Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Ca
  • Seymour Hersh

ABC's "This Week"

  • Sen. Joe Biden, D-De
  • Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-SC

War and immigration are the themes this week, as is to be expected.... again.

I'm obviously many hours late and probably more than a few dollars short (not to mention a few IQ points).  However, I am at least back on the mainland and back from visiting Mickey and friends, so bear with me.  I will, however, make this post as brief as possible (stop that cheering!)  In fact, this will probably be not much more than my minimalist posts when I was on the road (really, cheering is so declasse)

As stated, war and immigration are the overriding themes this week, but there's a clear undercurrent of "we told you so" tied to the Baker Hamilton Iraq Study Group "peace in our time" surrender plan.  CBS is the most overt with this, but all of the shows will likely have this as a subtext.

NBC Meet The Press lines up the Ambassador to Iraq for a grilling by that world renowned diplomat, Neville Russert.  Let us hope that Peace In Our Time works out better for the world than the last time around.

CBS Face The Nation goes overt over Iraq with Lee Hamilton, while Carl Levin, the Pentagon's Overlord, is on to humiliate Mitch McConnell as his price for allowing the amnesty bill to go forward as a subtle framing of the immigration issue.

Fox News Sunday is actually quite interesting in that it offers General Petraeus a solo platform (if you don't count junior Wallace) to defend himself against Dingy Harry and the Al Qaeda cheering section.

CNN Late Edition hawls out Jack Reed from Rhode Island to carry the Dhimmicrat water since he is already on record as calling the US military nasty names.  See, he does have his uses.  John Cornyn stands alone this week as a voice against the invasion of our country and the surrender of our sovereignty in the name of political expediency.  Wolfie rounds out the show with a mixed bag of serious players and leftist drones.  Guess who will get the respectful treatment?

Plugs Biden and Lindsey "can't we just all get along" Graham liven up Lil Georgie Steponallofus ABC This Week program.  I truly hope that the final round of the golf tournament will be available as a meaningful distraction.  If not I'll be forced to find something important on Food Network to watch instead.

The Saturday shows are largely predictable, but the Journal Editorial Report appears to excel with a review of the issues at hand in the Iraq conflict as well as a serious discussion of the earmarks scandal.  Gee... what a surprise.

This should be cross posted to my blog at Wizards.townhall.com later today. I have finally caught up over their and I hope to keep up to date from now on. In fact I'm going to change the format just a bit when posting this in light of the success of the technique I used to get caught up. This analysis will still be first but then I'm going to try putting all of the show by show posts into one big Post number 1. If I end up falling back to separate posts you'll know that I found an upper limit to the length of FR posts.

This thread exists primarily as a heads up for who is on the weekend talks shows, what they've been invited on to push (based on their recent pronouncements) and the spin (meme) the DBM is likely trying to push based on that information. All of this is prep work for the weekly Sunday Morning Talk Show thread posted by Alas Babylon!. That thread provides a live commentary and analysis of the Sunday talking head shows, with valuable insight and exceptional fact checking. we are the Jedi Council of FreeRepublic, at least in regards to these DBM gabfests. You wanna know what was said and what it meant, as well as where they messed up? Read that thread!

Mark Kilmer has posted his excellent preview of the Sunday shows over at Redstate.COM.

Tancredo Pulls Plug on ‘Sanctuary Cities’(Hooray!)

Looking at these vote totals on this bill, does anyone really think the Immigration bill is going to pass the US House even if it passes the US Senate this week?

So it begs the question what the sponsors of the bill think they accomplishing by continuing the fight in the Senate.

Seymour Hersh

Oh yeah, the guy who wrote the "Bush is going to nuke Iran" story 2 years ago is a real "credible" source for them to have on. Funny how a Leftist progandist like Hersh can simply make up stuff, report it as coming from "Confidential sources", be proven completely wrong, yet STILL get's treat as a "serious Journalist" by the Media Establishement.

Thanks for your superb work in letting us know what’s up for today.
Senator Jack Reed is Hillary!’s surrogate. He mouths her stance on the Iraq war in particular.
