It seems to me that it is because the State (because of its supporters) wishes to replace the parental role. That is why we are all to be treated as children, and the State is to “share” in the upbringing of real youngsters.

And why do leftists have such a drive for this goal? It is difficult to demonstrate conclusively, but a host of indications point to a disire by leftists who are nominally adults to act out infantile behavior. They need a state to care for themsleves, and being spolied children in their general personality, they even need some authority against whole they can rebel. You cannot accomplish these goals is you are self-sufficient and independent, and caring for others, because then you are a real adult. Many leftists do not want to grow up, but unlike Peter Pan, neither can they fly.

I question this. While what you state can certainly be true in some cases, I believe the majority of the Left's drive towards subordination and dependence is driven -- at its core -- by one of two things:

• A belief in the "perfectability" of mankind. That man is born a clean slate, possessing no innate gifts from God -- in essence, no soul. They believe that mankind, as I said born a clean slate, can be molded, shaped, formed, influenced, taught, compelled, etc. to perfection, or as near as possible.
• Power. Period. And any road, any egg head mumbo-jumbo, that will get you there is the road you take.
