Graham Statement on Reviving Immigration Floor Debate
L. Graham Senate website ^ | June 17, 2007

WASHINGTON- U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) today made the following statement on the agreement to bring the immigration reform bill back to the floor. The Senate will resume debate on immigration possibly as soon as next week.

Graham said: “After 9-11 immigration reform is not just a social and economic problem, but also a national security issue of the highest importance. I am pleased that the Senate leadership is going to bring the immigration reform bill back to the floor for further debate and amendment. This is a great opportunity for the Senate, in a bipartisan fashion, to reform a chaotic immigration system.

“The challenge is to bring to the table workable solutions instead of political rhetoric that embraces the unrealistic and caters to fear. I hope the Senate can rise to the occasion because if we fail it will be years before this issue is dealt with again, and the current chaos will continue to grow.

“Much is at stake for the Senate and the country as we resume debate on immigration reform. We have a chance to prove to the American people that we still have the ability to solve hard problems, or we can choose to reinforce growing skepticism about our government and fall further in the eyes of the American people.

“As elected leaders of the world’s greatest democracy I hope we will choose to make tough decisions and not pass this problem on to the next generation of political leaders. I understand the public skepticism about any effort to reform immigration. However, skepticism should never be used as an excuse for inaction.”

I have a question for Senator Graham, “How exactly is a wide open border in our National Security Interest?”

Congress loves skewering people with their hearings. Why don’t they hold hearings on why the CURRENT LAWS aren’t being enforced. It seems to me that passing more laws isn’t the answer to law enforcement, but holding those responsible for enforcement accountable is.

Looks like he's realized that his career in the Senate is nearing an end.

They want to look good for the cameras but they could care less about OUR OPINION! We've said to Lindsay Grahamamnesty and his ilk NO, WE DON'T WANT THAT BILL! But Senators keep at it, a case of the dumb leading the dumb.

Yeah, and that's why enforcement has been such a pressing issue, eh?

No one buys your crap any longer, Lindsey. You'd better start planning what you will do after the Senate, because the people of SC ain't gonna forget this.

“The challenge is to bring to the table workable solutions instead of political rhetoric that embraces the unrealistic and caters to fear. I hope the Senate can rise to the occasion because if we fail it will be years before this issue is dealt with again, and the current chaos will continue to grow."

Just a collection of vapid, ex cathedra pronouncements with neither real substance nor credibility. He is pure political rhetoric. For example, there is no reason why a Senate without the likes of Senator Graham would not be willing to actually deal with the issues, rather than gloss over them with a lot of verbage. As for the current chaos? There is no prospect of its not continuing to grow under the Bush/Kennedy/Graham sell out.

Senator Graham needs to address the points in the letter, I faxed to him last Friday:

Open Letter To Senator Graham.

Not that I think he would dare to do so!

I know that we are all stupid but how high of importance can security be seeing that we are now almost 6 years past 911?
