Momentum for Pro-Life Movie Bella Builds as August Premier Draws Close

Los Angles, CA (LifeNews.com) -- With its movies and music, Hollywood can make a significant impact on society and can change the face of the nation's attitudes on any topic. And changing the way the public approaches the issue of abortion is the top goal of the producers of Bella, a film that continues to generate a buzz within the pro-life community.

Bella was shown for the second time at the National Right to Life convention in Kansas City last week and once again an audience of hundreds rose to its feet with teary eyes, thunderous applause and offers to help promote it.

That the film would such a positive response is no surprise as it garnered the top award last year at the Toronto Film Festival, one of the top international awards events.

Bella is the story of a star Mexican soccer player who seemingly has all the fame and fortune the status as a sports start afford. That is until he accidentally kills a little girl in an automobile accident and learns the value of human life.

Without an over-the-top approach that features content directed at the pro-life community, it takes a more subtle tack that could cause millions of Americans to rethink their own views supporting abortion.

The movie is racking up strong reviews from several media outlets -- with the New York Times calling it an "emotional tale of self discovery," Fox News labeling it "incredibly charming," and the New York Post saying the film is "a stunning exhibition of cinema art."

But help in promoting the movie is much needed as the movie is set to open in theaters in August.

The opening is limited to 25 top markets. While residents of places like Los Angles and Chicago will be able to see the movie in local theaters, the producers are working with pro-life advocates to generate enough funds to rent theaters or other locations for showings in other communities on the same date.

Those audiences can be counted along with the box office totals to generate a larger total audience for the premier that could increase the number of theaters showing the film with the same kind of strategy employed by those behind the hit film “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon."

The actors and producers in the movie are stars in their own right who are all strongly pro-life Catholics and have formed a new production company to impact the culture. If Bella does well -- they have two more pro-life themed movies ready to follow.

Eduardo Verastegui is a singer and actor who is an international star in Latin American countries on par with top American celebrities. Like his character in Bella, he gave up the glory of the world to focus on making movies that advance values and ethics.

Verastegui has been in the industry for a long time but recently he decided he wants to work on projects that “touch peoples hearts and minds so when they leave the theater they want to love more and judge less."

Bella, filmed on location in New York, is the first project from Metanoia Films. The new company that wants to "tell stories that everyone can relate to in a language that everyone understands; love, pain, joy, sadness, happiness and hope."

The movie has already made an impact.

While he was conducting research for his role as Jose, Verastegui went to a local abortion business to talk to women about why they were having an abortion.

He wasn't intending to join pro-life protesters that day but they encouraged him to talk to a Hispanic couple because Spanish is his native tongue.

The conversation resulted in a changed heart and a baby named after the lead character.

As the movie converses with audiences nationwide, it will undoubtedly produce other such stories of hope and joy arising from pain and despair.

Here's a hyperlink to their website, which I've seen has been recently updated. Bella.

I've seen this movie several times already, and I really like it. I've helped out the production guys in the past, and I hope to continue to help up until the release. I actually got to meet some of the producers, the director, and the lead actor. It was pretty cool.

I’ve heard that movies are more successful if movie goers go to the movies as soon as they hit the theaters.
