A school and convent in a Gaza Catholic compound were ransacked before being torched as fears rise among Christians over their future in the Hamas-ruled territory.

The school and convent were ransacked, burned and looted during clashes around a major security headquarters, the head of the community said yesterday, according to a report in the UK Guardian.

Crosses were broken, a statue of Jesus was damaged, and prayer books were burnt at the Rosary Sisters School and nearby convent, said Fr Manuel Musallem, head of Gaza's Latin church.

The damage took place on Thursday, but wasn't reported until days later because of the chaos that has prevailed since Islamic Hamas militants wrested power in Gaza, Fr Musallem said. The religious compound is located near a key security headquarters Hamas captured on Thursday on the final day of its Gaza takeover.

Gunmen used the roof of the school during the fighting, and the convent was "desecrated", Mussalem said.

"Nothing happens by mistake these days," he said..."

The MSM would never report this. THey are too busy running “humanitarian crisis” articles about how the palestinians will be out of fuel and food within the week and its all the JOOS and Bush’s fault.

America needs to adopt the policy that it will use its troops and its super-powerness anywhere there is the sort of tyranny that we see in so many Mid-East and communist controlled countries. But the rest of the bargain has to be that we will intervene only with the support of a majority of nations in the UN, and that when we go in we will go with the express intent of stopping the violence, period. We will use whatever means at our disposal to mop up the situation as quickly as possible. We know now from long and painful experience that any other approach simply prolongs the conflict and leads to many more deaths and injuries than would a full strength, frontal assault on the troublemakers.

Announce that policy and then sit back and watch and wait. Make sure the world knows that we are ready to step in, but only with the support of others around the world and with the understanding the rules of engagement will be to win, at any cost and without regard to political correctness.

When things are going badly in some part of the world, like Darfur for instance, we just ask the UN to sign off on our intention to move in and clean up the mess regardless of whose ox gets gored.

It is apparent that Iran is the source of this barbaric behavior. They are taking advantage of the weakness of the Palestinians to gain a base of operations against Israel.

It is time make a move against the Iranian government. With terrorist setting up a base camp in the Gaza, Israel is in jeopardy. Israel had better smell the coffee. Iran will apply to them what they are doing in Iraq. There will be even more carnage. And Israel will be the test case for what they can do to the United States.

Iran, do not mess with Isreal. Consider Isreal like a cat when cornered, it will bare its claws.

The situation that Israel is in at present can be compared to the famous Bible story of the young King David who had met his match against the giant named Goliath. Young King David, who was much smaller then this giant not only did not wear any armor, but he used a slingshot and a rock to take down Goliath. This same lesson should come to mind when Israel was up against the Arab/Muslim nations in 1948, 1956, 1967, and 1973, when Israel as David had beaten back these Goliaths. It can happen again. Do not underestimate Israel’s power to do so. It would be wise for Iran to do a little studying of history.

we will intervene only with the support of a majority of nations in the UN, and

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where is the sarcasm tag, because there had better be one buddy.

With that caveat, there would be no need to ever worry about using troops anywhere, anytime, or anyplace foreverever now until the Earth is destroyed.

The UN will not, and has never done anything of the sort except for the Korean conflict after the Soviet Union walked out. - you might make a case for resolution 678 which did result in grins from ear to ear as we made Kuwait safe for arabs while Jews died under scud firings, but we didn't accomplish anything else there.

IMO, a UN resolution ording force to be used should be an automatic bar to the US sending any troops whatsoever.

I had hoped the sarcasm would stand for itself. I was trying to point out the futility of thinking that we can ever again use our power with the approval of others. We need to do what’s right for America and the rest of the world can either go along or suffer the consequences.

If we had approached Iraq as though we were a country on a mission from God and that we were going to do whatever necessary to get in, get the job done and get out we would have had a lot more people on our side. As it was we let the Dems and the French, and even Tony Blair, make us look like the opinion of the world was more important to us than success.

I don’t know what it’s going to take to turn us into a nation with power that is not reluctant to use it full force on those who mess with us. In fact, it could be too late even now.

Hi JW. I have pondered along those same lines to try to understand the differences between the mind set of those who sent great men like these into combat and the leaders(sic) of today, and the only things that play into a logical string of thought are "diversity is strength" and other such Orwellian doublethink.

In fact, I do believe that such a mindset is exactly what the architects wanted to achieve, along with the resultant reduction in our ability to do much at all.

Its like saying Death is life. - Do it, its good for you and having a significant portion of the populace believe it like good little batteries.

Personally, if the trends continue to proceed in the direction that they are going I will be sure to educate my children not to follow in the footsteps of my father and I. - If they remain in this country at all.

Thank you for your reply, - bill.

What a great picture! I love pictures from that time in our history. I was four-years-old when my dad came home from the war. I recall meeting him at the train station and wearing my little navy uniform to match his. I have always been addicted to aviation. When dad first came back we lived in what had been quarters at the old Drew Field in Tampa, now Tampa International Airport. Our place was right off the main east-west runway and dad would walk me over to the hanger to see the airplanes. Two of my uncles had been navy pilots, both had joined the navy in the late 30’s, long before we entered the war and both flew flying boats from Hawaii.

I know you can’t go back, but it would sure help us as a country today to have some of the ‘can-do’ spirit that was the hallmark of men like the man in the photo.

I am convinced that any good fortune America has enjoyed in her history was directly the result of so many Americans knowing and praying to God for our country. As fewer and fewer prayers go up on behalf of America I fear we will lose more and more of the blessings that made us the greatest nation on God’s green Earth (tm Michael Medved).
