The message from citizens is simple: Enforce immigration laws

President Bush’s insistence on pushing Congress to approve an overhaul of the nation’s immigration laws is appropriate — but instead of reviving the bill, as some senators plan, it should be considered dead.

Too many Americans rightfully view the measure as a virtual amnesty for the estimated 12 million people in this country illegally. Too many see it as a sell-out to powerful interests — and, frankly, to the Mexican government.

No one in our government has adequately explained to us how such a bill would affect Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and our education system. How do they expect anyone to support any immigration bill without answering those questions first?

Bush has vowed to continue pushing for approval of an omnibus immigration bill. “I believe we can get an immigration bill,” the president emphasized.

We agree — but it won’t be the bill promoted by the White House and by liberals in Congress.

The American people have firmly and loudly said “no” to that version — although the president believes last week’s defeat in the Senate was merely a temporary setback. We disagree.

After weeks of talk by supporters of the measure, and of predictions that opposition to the bill would die down, the American people remained steadfast. Their message: No amnesty. Enforce the law.

That is a simple formula for immigration reform. It is one Bush and Congress should embrace.

Must be too simple for our elite senators to understand.

Yep. The Congress is due for another spanking. Incumbents take note—regardless of party affiliation.

Yeah, they don’t seem to understand it at all. The liberals and President Bush (unfortunately) are being lobbied by the Mexican government, and illegal immigrants. They don’t seem to notice that legalizing 12-20 million illegals would devastate our country and wreak total havoc. Enforce the law: Arrest and Deport.

And these grateful immigrants are from a nation that recently booed Miss America and also chanted ‘Osama’ at a US soccer match. Of all the deserving countries on the planet to grant blanket amnesty too, that is the Third World nation that the Roman Senate wants us to open our borders too ?

Bears repeating - funny I can't recall a single article dealing with these issues. Strange. ;-(

The administration can’t answer this on either: How will immigration services deal with the current backlog -AND- enroll 20-30 million new immigrants?

We'll just eliminate that pesky step. Poof! problem solved.

Here's the problem, it's not that simple.
There are subsequent insane laws that makes it illegal (I know, it's insane) to enforce the laws.
If I remember correctly, there is also a presidential executive order addressing the same insane application of a legal law.

Here’s the problem, it’s not that simple.

No, it’s not, yet, it is. Mr Bush has declared that “We can’t send 12 million people back...”
My answer is Yes, you CAN - 1 person at a time.
I loathe the prospect of a National ID, however, this may be the only option and here’s my reason:
My wife is Chinese - now a citizen. When she went to take her Learners Permit Test in South Carolina, the first thing the clerk asked her was “Are you a citizen?”
The clerk had not asked anyone else if they were a citizen and I took offense. I said, “Would you have asked ME if I were a citizen?. She said no and then turned red. It was obvious that she asked because my wife is and LOOKS Chinese. Do they ask ALL ‘foreign’ looking people if they are citizens? I doubt it. And, having just returned from Germany, I was struck by the fact that virtually ALL of the Germans I met, could have been mistaken for Americans. They would not be asked.
Further, I am a citizen. But I have no PROOF that I carry with me to demonstrate that in fact, I AM a citizen. My wife does. I don’t. And, I am sure I am not alone among MOST legal American citizens.
Frankly, I think they SHOULD ask - EVERYONE. And, unfortunately, this is going to require some kind of National ID.
By the way, when I tried to get my Massachusetts license converted to a South Carolina license, I had to PROVE, by virtue of a notarized birth certificate from NY, that I was a citizen. They wouldn’t accept the Mass license on its own. It wasn’t good enough, they told me, in the aftermath of 9-11...

We don't need "national ID" to accomplish this. Just get an official copy of your birth certificate, fold it up, and stick it in your wallet (or purse). Presto--instant proof you're a citizen.

Yes, there are some very few folks who don't have birth certificates, so arrangements would have to be made for them.

They understand all right - they just don’t care.

The elites in both parties have sold out to globalist interests which have no oyalty to the U.S. and merely want cheap labor sources close to the market - while the market has money left to spend.

Its time.

We need a third political party, regardless of WHO gets elected in 2008. If its Fred Thompson or Duncan Hunter, he’ll need the support of another party - his own won’t hlep him - they will cave into the enemy - the Democrats.

I can tell you how it will effect local property taxes...a big hike to pay for the new schools, teachers, jails, guards, cops, EMT’s, aid to non-profit hospitals for their MILLIONS of ‘extended’ family members which will be pouring across the border. Then you will have to have state tax hikes to pay for more college education/buildings/profs, a new prison with the additional guards will also be needed to house the 6-7% of the ‘extendeds’ that will need to be encarcerated after they have committed rape, murder, assault, robbery etc. here in the USA.

Americans have indeed made their feelings about illegal aliens clear. Unfortunately the government in Washington no longer responds to the voters who sent them to Washington.

It is in the government’s interest to increase dependence on government by letting in million of people who immediately depend on government hand-outs.

The U. S. Constitutions says that when government no longer responds to the people then the people have the right to change government.

Of course, there is nothing wrong with our system of government, it’s the people who have seized control who must be changed, and without delay.
