I get more assistance than this from a Dell call center.
Staff be too busy holdin’ he gat.
I just purchased a new laptop and I had some issues with transferring my files over to it. They were very helpful and I could even understand them!
Well, now I know where he stands.../sarc
Here is the truth and the problem, from Cuccinelli email:
During the debate on the first try at an immigration bill, one of our own U.S. Senators, Jim Webb, voted wrong on one of the amendments to the bill. He voted to allow convicted felons to receive amnesty under the bill. Obviously, the right position was to FORBID convicted felons from receiving amnesty (of course, an even better position would be to forbid everyone from getting amnesty ).
So, Sen. Webb was willing to give illegal aliens amnesty who, in addition to violating our immigration laws, were also convicted felons, and to happily invite them into the fold of American Citizens. Mariel boatlift anyone?
Senator Webb went on to vote AGAINST cloture. What does this mean? Cloture is the fancy name for cutting off debate. Thus a cloture vote is a vote to cut off debate. The purpose of a cloture vote in the U.S. Senate is to stop a filibuster and move to a vote on the underlying bill. It takes 60 votes for a cloture motion to succeed. Thats why it is often said that you need 60 votes to pass anything in the U.S. Senate, because if you cant stop a filibuster, you cant ever get to a vote on the bill in question.
Now, lets look at these two votes together.
Sen. Webb was willing to vote to give illegal alien-felons amnesty, but he wasnt willing to bring the underlying bill to a final vote? But, you say, those are inconsistent positions!? Correct.
This must be the first time a Washington politician has voted inconsistently on the same bill! NOT correct.
Why would anyone who was willing to vote for amnesty for felons vote against the bill (remember the failed cloture vote killed the bill)?
The only logical explanation for Sen. Webbs two votes is that had the bill actually survived the cloture vote, Sen. Webb would have voted FOR the bill.
Then why did he vote against cloture?
The reason is simple: that vote gave him (he hopes) political cover because it looks like he opposes the bill. However (and heres the trick), if they have 59 votes for cloture, Sen. Webb will flip his vote, vote for cloture and then vote to pass the bill.
He does not want to vote for the bill if the bill is going to fail.
Sen. Harry Reid, the Democrats Majority Leader knows this. Thus, if Bush delivers more Republican Senators to support cloture, then Sen. Reid will magically be able to produce more Democrat Senators to support cloture that had previously voted against it (like Sen. Webb).
Thats todays lesson in tricky politics. Is it any wonder people get a wee-bit cynical about politics these days?
He voted “no” at the last cloture vote.
I was able to get thru on the La Raza line (it helps that I speak Spanish) and speak with one of his staffers to urge the Senator to vote no on cloture.
We might not see eye-to-eye politically, but Jim Webb is a patriot.

The toll-free number connects you with his Richmond office.
>>I was able to get thru on the La Raza line (it helps that I speak Spanish) and speak with one of his staffers to urge the Senator to vote no on cloture.<<
You can also use La Raza’s English line 1-800-417-7666.
>>We might not see eye-to-eye politically, but Jim Webb is a patriot.<<
I hope he votes like a patriot on cloture.
If he was looking for cover on this vote of his, it’s an old trick, and lots of members have used that tactic for years.
Strange, though, I thought Webb was against the immigration bill categorically?
Or it might be that Mr. Webb is a very, very complicated person? That’s not a good quality in a legislator.
That’s the e-mail they send out to let you know they received an e-mail from you. Webb has a much larger letter that will be sent to you when they read your’s and figure out what you were asking about.
Please, do not try to blame it on the staff. That is so lame.
What evidence is there that Jim Webb is a patriot?
Note - Jim Webb has, in the past, acted patriotically - and there would be no dispute with me. He served in Viet Nam honorably, and he served as Sec. of Navy for a short time in the Reagan administration.
However - his recent actions are not patriotic - they are political. There is a BIG difference between being political and patriotic.
Note 2 - there are many former patriots who became traitors, or had actions that were against this country’s best interest. Benedict Arnold is the best example. John Glenn, Korean War Vet/Hero, first American to orbit the globe in space - as a US Senator, put politics and protecting the Democrats (and Bill Clinton) over the country’s best interests, and he helped derail the investigation of Chinese Communist campaign contributions to the Democrat party (and Clinton). The ChiComms got help in fixing their rockets that would place satellites in orbit (but the same technology would help multiple warheads be launched and deployed) - when Clinton permitted LORAL to assist China. Disgusting! Is Glenn a traitor? In my eyes - absolutely!!
Back to Webb ... his past actions are not a cover for future actions. His trashing of the President, and his willingness to go hard core Left with the Dems on the Iraq war show me that his is being very political, and to hell with the consequences - and that is not patriotic.
Mike
So what is his take on immagration? That e-mail is nice, but does not say anything about the subject.
His trashing of the President
Shoot! Everyone on FREEPERS is trashing the President. Does that make them unpatriotic? If that is one of your considerations, there are not many patriots in your opinion it seems.
Once elected, democrats in particular insulate themselves from the electorate. Webb belongs to Harry Reid though he would never admit it and his constituents can’t reach him to discover it.
I consider lying about the actions and motives of the President when we have troops in the field to be unpatriotic. During WWII, anyone who would have suggested that FDR knew of a secret plan by the Japanese to bomb Pearl - before it happened - would have been tagged as a stooge or Nazi collaborator.
When Webb lies about what President Bush knew/when he knew it - he gives aid and comfort to Al Qaeda. When Webb lies about what the President’s intentions were in going to war - he gives aid and comfort to Al Qaeda.
I don’t consider Webb to be too different from the “Truthers” - and about 35% of the Democrats who think (along with Michael Moore) - that the World Trade Center Towers weren’t toppled by the planes, but by demolition charges planted under orders of a secret cabal working for President Bush. The TinFoil hat types are also giving aid and comfort to Al Qaeda.
Now ... maybe they consider their actions to be patriotic - but not me!!! (Because I don’t want us to surrender to Al Qaeda, and they do. Webb wants to quit Iraq - and quitting equals surrender.)
Mike
