I noticed that there are complaints about the Rudy supporters trying to drive everyone away over there as well.
History just repeats itself. Just didn’t think it would be so soon. Goodness.
>My primary candidate would be Duncan Hunter, but I think that Fred might be much more electable.<
With that kind of attitude, no candidate could win, and we end up with second best!
I don’t care what you say, or how many words you use to say it, we don’t stand a chance of changing the fascistislamo mind or attitude. They have been this way for centuries, and will continue until the end of time. They wean their young on hatred for the West, for the Free World, for the Jew, for anyone who is not Muslim. Nothing we can do can possibly change that, short of wiping them all off the face of the map. Be real!
>>> Thompson thinks hes above the fray. Why should he bother when he has all these people absolutely crazy, and I do mean crazy, about him?<<<
I don’t get the hysteria. He’s solid. That’s about all I can say. As a Tennesseean who voted for him and who was represented by him, I was reasonably pleased, though never overwhelmed.
This Tennesseean, however, is going to need more convincing if he’s going to leave Romney’s court. Until then, I’m pulling for the Yankee.
>Thompson thinks hes above the fray. Why should he bother when he has all these people absolutely crazy, and I do mean crazy, about him?<
>>Thank you for your apparently required dose of ad hominem attacks on Thompson and his supporters.<<
If you can point out how that’s an ad hominem argument, I’ll back Thompson.
If not, you back Romney. :P
There’s nothing ad hominem about that, though you sure as heck connected all of the dots and arrived at the conclusion that Thompson has been given an awful lot of support for very little work in return. Just sayin’...
My feelings as well. :-)
And where do you put your Mason-Dixon line?
We do not have to change their minds, it is the rank and file Muslims who they seek to lead that we need to reach. The possibility of success here is greatly feared by al Qaeda senior leadership as the book by one of them devotes a whole chapter to this threat, which is labeled as greater than all the others they faced combined. I think that they know the minds of their potential followers a little better than either you or I.
>>>Based upon what I have seen, DH’s campaign is an attempt to function within a new paradigm—completely grassroots and information age oriented.<<<
Well, then, he’s been outplayed. You mention that Hunter is running an information age campaign. Well, let’s look at his website:
On the Duncan Hunter website, you have 15 videos. I think you can take 5 of them as individual showcases to Hunter’s take on specific issues.
Now let’s look at Romney’s webpage. I counted 105 videos, from issues ranging from illegal immigration, to Iran, to tort reform, to tax policy, to energy policy, to jihad, to North Korea. In short, he’s got a breadth of issues covered and is able to approach them indepth.
Hunter hasn’t run an effective grassroots or information age campaign. He’s simply not been the salesman I hoped he would. I gave to his campaign in its very earliest days. I can’t say I’ve seen the return on my investment that I’d like.
I’ll keep saying it, if you can’t sell a product, you’re not going to be an effective politician, especially an executive.
>>And where do you put your Mason-Dixon line?<<<
Where do I put my Mason-Dixon Line? As a Tennesseean, right along the northern Kentucky line and up Virginia, leaving out the Beltway area. Texas and Oklahoma get honorary, though probationary status. I don’t think they’d take it, anyway. ;)
But now that you mention it, there is actually a line in Virginia where they stop serving sweet tea. I just hope that line doesn’t ever start moving southward.... ;)
Maybe he thinks it would be a waste of his time. The debates so far have been nothing more than a conglomerate of boring, 10 second sound bites. You have a gazillion people on stage, each one trying to get their 15 seconds of fame.
The “debates” have been “jokes”. I’m waiting for the field to narrow and see some debates with substance not Brit Hume and Chrissy “The Sissy” Matthews and their stupid, irrelevant questions. Do you realize out of the debates thus far not one minute has been spent discussing Education (or the lack thereof) in the U.S.?
Nowhere in our Founding Documents does it outline how candidates should run for president. If we want a leader who can shake up Washington, we shouldn’t be surprised if he shakes up the way campaigns are typically run, too.
Say, if you want a great glass of sun tea, iced, try using Tetley tea bags - no sweetener but great flavor without it. Easier on both the hips and the pocketbook. :)
Don’t you guys ever get tired of waiting around for this guy? He stood you up already.
“Thompson thinks hes above the fray. Why should he bother when he has all these people absolutely crazy, and I do mean crazy, about him?”
Typical response from a Hunter supporter...
Mad because Thompson is out-polling your candidate by 30 points and he isn’t even in the race yet... Let us know when you have some actual arguments against Thompson.
haha! My mom actually uses Tetley quite a bit.
(But shhhh! with Splenda! Don’t tell anyone! :) )
Tell her about Stevia. It is from the Stevia Rebaudiana plant and, as it says on the box, has been used traditionally for hundreds of years!
All natural, so better for you. Not quite as sweet at Splenda, but Splenda is way too sweet for me, so only use a a fraction of a packet. You can get Stevia at Trader Joe’s.
Romney could have 300 videos and it would not erase the fact that he is and says whatever it takes to advance his candidacy—not what is right.
Also, you do not have any evidence of Hunter’s campaign being unsuccessful yet. Take some advice from somebody who’s seen a few elections in their lifetime—it is too early to put Mitt in the Oval Office...
I’m not putting Mitt in the Oval Office by any stretch of the imagination. He’s got a long, uphill road ahead.
That said, I seriously doubt Romney’s stance on North Korea, tort reform (heaven knows Republicans have been sitting on this for FOREVER), and legal immigration for skilled, educated, English-speaking immigrants is going to get anyone elected. But Romney is right on them. And spells them out in detail in those videos. That alone is impressive to me, as his policy with Iran. Probably not going to win many voters with that one, either, but his 5-points address a pretty vital and strained national interest (and do so in detail).
And as for Romeny, I’m sorry, I think he’s got substance and has it in spades. I see a man who knows how to get results and has. Who stood up against taxatin when he didn’t have to (and when it would have been far easier to cave). Phonies don’t step into flagging corporations and over and over again convert them into profit-makers. That takes talent, an eye for talent, incredible organizational and motivational skills, a willingness to make cuts where needed, and a heck of a lot of work. (as an aside, none of those are exactly liberal traits, are they?)
As for Hunter, he may get his ship off of the ground. But when you’re an executive, you have to be able to instigate change. Can you imagine how much easier this immigration nonsense would be if we had a President who could use his sway to turn the American public against the Senate, using his clout and media access? Or if Bush could have more clearly articulated his views on numerous, numerous issues?
Hunter just hasn’t impressed me on the organizational/motivational/salesmanship levels. I love the way he thinks, and I hope he assumes a position of power. We need him!
But I don’t think he’s going to rally people around him. When he speaks, he’s rather monotone. Few hang gestures. They’re not crisp when he does make them, and rarely do they emphasize a point like they could.
I have one of his bumper stickers. His name is concealed by the stars and stripes of the flag. Sure, flags and red, white, and blue are great...but hiding your name? Really, the list goes on...
Maybe he’ll turn it around. He did well in the recent California poll. And he’s easily in my 3 favorite candidates running. It wouldn’t at all hurt my feelings if he did take a big upswing, FYI.
You just called thousands of FReepers deadheads. Nice.
