We have to stay on our toes and fight the power. Remember there's a large contingent in Congress who would have the military confined to meals-on-wheels missions out of nothing but contempt for our service.
I'm glad submarines aren't mentioned. Not too many humanitarians in this crowd. :-)

Nobody wants to do nation-building in a war zone. Why is it the military’s failing? Who decided they’re supposed to be in the “foreign national infrastructure revitalization” business? If they are, then they need the people, training, equipment, supplies and money to do it. If you don’t give them all those things, starting with the mission, then don’t say they’re not doing it well enough. That would be like evaluating me as a chef when my real expertise is food consumption.

I’m still amazed that our nation spent decades in it’s own period of “Reconstruction,” with many painful lessons learned about the roles of the military, politicians and private enterprise in such an endeavor. I’ve yet to hear one think tank, policy maker, legislator, or commentator make the briefest reference to it. The lessons of history are there for those willing to learn them. Too bad many of the simpletons in leadership roles have come to view history as old fashioned.
