In these super high-speed internet days of ours it doesn't take long for something to become iconic - and even less time for someone like Hillary Clinton to joylessly jump on the bandwagon, kick the fun out of it and then expect votes in return.
What are we talking about? The newly iconic final scene of The Sopranos, that's what. The Sopranos finale had it all - tension, mystique, cheese-rock power ballads, bad driving - and, most of all, it was pretty much perfect for Hillary Clinton to spoof on her website as a way to announce the winner of her recent campaign song competition. Anyone visiting the official Hillary Clinton website can now be treated to the sight of Bill and Hillary Clinton doing a slightly confused run-through of the last ever Sopranos scene, complete with obligatory blackout ending. And the Sopranos video has been a success, too - so much so that hardly anyone has realised that the winner of the song competition was effing Celine Dion yet.
It's interesting to see the different ways in which the internet has changed the way politicians try and score votes, It used to just be that you needed to put on a smart suit, kiss a baby or two and announce a list of intelligent policies that people think will make their lives better. Now, thanks mainly to broadband, all politicians need to do is 'connect' with the voters by twatting about on YouTube every now and again.
Earlier this week a song about how sexy Barack Obama is appeared on YouTube and instantly made him more popular than if he'd done a thousand of his tiresome Hollywood fundraisers, while the Republican hopefuls… well, who knows what those guys have been up to. But anyway, the pack-leader when it comes to wanking about like a dickhead on the internet is Hillary Clinton. Just recently Hillary Clinton hit upon the idea that she should let the people choose her new campaign song. Which song would soundtrack Hillary's presidential shot? U2? KT Tunstall? Smash Mouth? Gwar? Thanks to the internet, Hillary could let you decide.
And now the votes are in - but Hillary Clinton couldn't just announce the winner like a normal person. No, instead one of her strategic team decided that it'd be far better if Hillary revealed the winner by spoofing the final scene of The Sopranos. That's the same final scene of The Sopranos that everyone hated and not even the stars of The Sopranos understood, by the way. And here's how it turned out…
OMG! A black screen! What could it all mean? Did the guy in the toilet come out and shoot Hillary Clinton in the face? Were all the other diners in the restaurant a reflection of all the people Hillary Clinton has wronged in the past? We've been researching this Hillary Clinton Sopranos video and, almost a year ago, Hillary Clinton said in one of her speeches that when you die, everything just goes black. And then everything stops going black and you end up lumbered with You And I by bloody Celine Dion as your campaign song. It's roughly this moment that you realise you're in hell.
But, still, it's good to see the way that Hillary Clinton has embraced the power of the internet to push her message across. That message seems to be 'Although I'm too busy being a politician to know a lot about popular culture, I'm at least willing to pretend I do if it means you people will make me president.'
And the video of Hillary Clinton spoofing the ending of The Sopranos has been so overwhelmingly popular that Hillary plans to carry on doing send-ups of popular internet videos for the rest of her campaign. In August we'll be able to see Hillary Clinton dressed as a toddler screaming "I want my money, bitch!" and "You pay now!" at a confused Bill Clinton in an afro, followed in November by a video of Hillary Clinton attacking her computer while roaring "eat your melted shit!" at it in German.
And the REAL ironic part of it, there was no chemistry between either of them

I’ve never seen the Sopranos, so when I saw this video, I was sitting there, thinking WTF is this? My reactions were the same as yours - Hillary DOES think she is superior to the rest of us & that she knows what is best for us. I think that Bill looked tired and like he had given up on everything - he looked neutered.
Hillary is also the worst actress I’ve ever seen - she can’t even ACT like she has a personality!
might add that her mannerisms drive me nuts. the way she turns her head and looks disdainfully at the other people in the restaurant...ugh. it's everything i despise about her.

The real question is - who knows the most dead people, Hitlery or Tony? And who is the more responsible for those deaths?

This video portends nothing but good. It displays a fundamental lack of understanding of the medium it seeks to exploit. Social media is not your father’s Oldsmobile.
The more her campaign seeks to capitalize on what they don’t understand, the more it highlights to their target market just how out wincingly out of step she is. Is there anything as pathetic as a middle-aged dork pretending she’s hip? Especially one who was never hip to begin with, ever?
The sexy-Obama video took off precisely because it wasn’t staged by the campaign. The Clinton campaign appears not to grasp that the hit counters on YouTube don’t distinguish between those who click on out of interest and support, and those who click on to ridicule.
