Leave of absence for major who disappeared

Officer serving at Manas said she was kidnapped

HENDERSON, N.C. — The Air Force officer who disappeared in Kyrgyzstan in September and reappeared three days later will take a leave of absence from the military to spend time with her husband, her mother said Tuesday.

Maj. Jill Metzger talks with family members in September 2006 after arriving at Moody Air Force Base, Ga. Metzger's mother said the major will start an 18-month leave from the military to spend more time with her husband. A Moody spokesman said he could not discuss Metzger's status.

Maj. Jill Metzger’s 18-month leave will start next month, said her mother, Jeannette Metzger.

“It’s just a temporary thing, just to give her a chance to get her life back together,” Jeannette Metzger said. “She hasn’t been with her husband — the Air Force did not put her with her husband — so this is a way that she’s going to be able to be with him until she decides what she’s going to do.”

Jill Metzger, who grew up in Henderson, is married to fellow Air Force officer Joshua Mayo.

Capt. Gary Arasin, a spokesman for Moody Air Force Base, Ga., where Metzger is stationed, said he could not discuss Metzger’s status. Since she returned to duty in late October, Metzger has continued her work in the mission support squadron, which oversees personnel matters for the base, Arasin said.

Metzger was stationed at the U.S. base in Manas outside the Kyrgyz capital, Bishkek, when she vanished Sept. 5 while on a shopping excursion in the city. When she reappeared three days later, she said she had been kidnapped.

The Justice Department and Air Force Office of Special Investigations are looking into the matter. Capt. Christine Millette, a spokeswoman for the Air Force, said OSI hoped to complete its investigation soon.

This story needs to be picked up by national news media. This liar should NOT be allowed to skulk out of the AF with no punishment. While we, the public paying her salary, may not be entitled to hear the specifics of her trumped up “psychiatric diagnosis”, we are certainly entitled to know whether or not she was, in fact, abducted in Kyrgyzstan; and if she lied about it, what her punishment will be.
As a former female Air Force Major myself, I am appalled at the apparent cover-up of this story. She’s making military women look BAD, and the inability of the Air Force to conduct a timely investigation looks even WORSE. I have to wonder why the AF is going to such lengths to keep this story under wraps. Who ELSE, more important than a promiscuous little Major, is involved?????

New Air Force Stealth Personnel Program
Written by T-Bird on Jun-20-07 9:47pm on Zimbio.com

The USAF had a new personnel stealth program but it was uncovered by some Moody AFB personnel who felt the injustice had gone on long enough.

So you’re asking what’s the story well it’s a dozy! Major Jill Metzger was quietly being sneaked out the back door this July after returning from Manas Air Base, Kyrgyzstan 285 plus days ago with a disability retirement. Disability for what! Well our sources say Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome, PTSD. You know what the combat veterans have to fight for with the military health care system and Veterans Affairs because there is no verifiable way to confirm the illness? A check with MilitaryCorruption.com has many readers asking the question was it abduction or as some have said is it a lie to cover up something else? The folks at Accuracy in Media had the guts to take up the gravel and ask for a full accounting from government officials on how and why this is being done. Privacy laws are not being asked to be broken, people are not asking for a medical diagnosis but an explanation as to why all the secrecy surrounding the missing three days, the DOJ investigation, the grand jury, the failed polygraph, and the rumor that a high ranking officer is being protected! If you call Air Force Media Center you get a “no comment and to call Moody AFB,” you call Moody AFB Public Affairs and you’re referred back to the Air Force Media Center. Then the Media Center states “because of the on-going investigation they can’t comment!” Who’s investigating? The Department of Justice and the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (OSI) when called won’t comment on whether there is or isn’t an on-going investigation. Are you sensing a pattern here? The target is on the radar but isn’t. I’m almost ready after the 2nd of July for all to say Jill who? Oh, that’s the date she retires!

Who is exerting so much power to keep this one under the radar? Her father who is a retired Air Force Colonel? Her husband, an OSI agent? Her father-in-law, also an OSI agent? Or could the rumor of high ranking officer involvement be true? Is this involvement so embarrassing that Air Force Public Affair Officer’s were given instructions not to touch the topic? Could it be true that if this incident got out to the public it could rattle the halls of military justice since the trial of Billy Mitchell?

Don’t you think that all the active duty and wounded veterans who fight for a disability rating deserve an answer as to why they spend a year or more in combat, get wounded, come home to fight a bureaucracy for disability only to learn that Major Metzger got a retirement disability for $2700 tax free dollars per month based on her questionable disappearance? According to local police officials in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan they remain convinced that this was an abortion that had medical complications and was then covered up with an abduction story. But they were unable to pursue their investigation since she was whisked out of the country. So Major Metzger’s alleged disappearance places her on disability but think about this, she’s was just recently observed running mini-marathons on Moody AFB! You don’t think she’ll run in the September Air Force Marathon do you?

There’s too many unanswered questions on this matter and the Air Force tries to put it usual spin, privacy laws, no investigation, denied Freedom of Information Act program requests, and the most interesting of all, Major Metzger’s mother telling the Associated Press in a recent interview that her daughter was taking a leave of absence from the Air Force for eighteen months! Duh, WHAT?

If you’re a taxpayer, a veteran, or an active duty member of the armed services do you really think this is fair? Don’t you think there should be a full accountability by the Air Force in this matter? Well I leave it up to your paper and pencil to express your thoughts on the subject but before you do write your Congressman or Senator read all of the articles of this topic because like I said it’s a dozy!

Update: Letters have been sent to:
US House Armed Services Committee
US Senate Armed Services Committee
US Senator and Presidential Candidate John McCain
Secretary of Defense Dr. Robert M. Gates
National Commanders of VFW, DAV, and AL
Commander for USAF Personnel Center
Chairman and Board of Directors of Military Officer’s Association of America
Former Senator and possible Presidential Candidate Fred Dalton Thompson
Senator Elizabeth Dole

This case is a disgrace. How can they look at us in the face and not be ashamed at their lying.

This is a horrible betrayal of Air Force core values by the top leadership of the Air Force.

If her adultery was with a guy with enough stars, and she preserved DNA evidence as the Jesse Jackson slut did (a ‘Jessicle’ in the icebox), she might get some serious, albeit illegal, coddling...
