Rudy Camp Furious, Says Mayor Mike Betrayed Mentor
(CBS) NEW YORK -- The race for president has been jolted by Mayor Michael Bloomberg's flirtation with an independent run for the White House next year.
But no one has been jolted as much as Bloomberg's predecessor, Rudy Giuliani.
Five and a half years ago, a hugely popular Giuliani virtually anointed unknown businessman Bloomberg as his successor.
But now Bloomberg may now become the second New York mayor in the race for president. And the question is whether the two are headed for a collision.
"Now that 'The Sopranos' is over we now have Giuliani-Bloomberg," said former Deputy Mayor Fran Reiter.
Publicly, Giuliani has been diplomatic.
"I like Mike very much," Giuliani said Wednesday. "I am disappointed he left the Republican Party. I still respect what he has done as mayor."
But behind the scenes, his loyalists are blasting what they call Bloomberg's betrayal of his political mentor.
"We're already hearing loyalty, deception -- I'm telling you, this is the next great soap opera," Reiter said.
Privately, aides to both mayors say they were never very close to begin with. When CBS 2 HD asked one Bloomberg adviser about the relationship, he said, simply, "there never was one."
Bloomberg has abandoned a handful of Giuliani programs. And not long ago, he dissed Giuliani for saddling him with huge deficits when he left office.
Former Mayor Ed Koch endorsed both men, but has since had a falling out with Giuliani.
"I didnt believe they were close friends before and don't think they're close friends now, but they observe all the social amenities," Koch said.
They may be crossing paths a lot more as the election grows closer. Despite the growing rivalry, some political observers believe it could be the Democratic candidate who suffers more in a race against Bloomberg. They cite Bloomberg's liberal views on social issues.

very well written
Hopefully they should draw more democrats to vote for them than any republicans or independents.
this is mighty delicious. :-)
Neither one of the LIEberal a$$holes is acceptable to me.
We doan need no more steenkin’ LIEberals in the White House!
Just shows you what an ignorant liberal fool Rooty is. *snort*
RinoRudy is surprised that anointing a liberal wasn't a smart move?
LOL - I was going to post that pic but then I got a call (I’m at work)
The reason there was no one on the line is because it was me. I wanted to post first, so I had my secretary put in that call. Obviously my evil plan worked.
It seems that the most obvious explanation is being overlooked. Bloomie doesn’t want to have to back the GOP candidate especially if that candidate turns out to be Rudy. Now that he’s independent, he won’t have to.
Mayor Mussolini will attract vegans and dogs who want to see trans fat removed from their french fries.
Rudy v. Bloomberg. Make a bunch of popcorn!
Hot Rino on Rino action!
Surely that wasn't aimed at you?
"And start melting the butter---lots of it."
With two Divas.
Need the big popcorn maker for sure. I bet they each have plenty of dirt on each other.
