The 'Do-Nothing Congress' — Big Salary, Little Work, Free Trips

Saturday , June 23, 2007

By Dick Morris and Eileen McGann

FNC Americans are not happy about the job that Congress is doing, and with very good reason. According to the results of a Gallup Poll completed last week, only 14 percent of the American people have a lot of confidence in Congress.

That's the lowest Congressional rating since Gallup started measuring confidence in American institutions in May of 1973. Even then, at the height of the Watergate scandal, Congress scored a 42 percent confidence rating. And now, Congress is rated as the worst of all 16 American institutions measured.

The results are hardly surprising when you look at how little the House and Senate actually work, their minimal accomplishments and their generosity to themselves and their families. They have not been able to pass important legislation on minimum wage, immigration reform, or anything else of importance. Instead, they spend their time raising money for themselves, bickering and passing bills to change the names of courthouses and post offices, commending winning sports teams, and suggesting that the flag be flown on Father's Day. These are their weighty concerns.

I’d pay them even more to do less.

A “Do Nothing” Congress is infinitely better than a “Do Something!!” Congress.

If only we actually had the former.

Rumor is that Dick here is the one that helped convince Lott amnesty was a political winner and would lock up the hispanic vote. If so, I think Morris can take some credit for the low approval.

I think Lott favored it anyway and Morris told him what he wantd to her, like Dowd does with Bush and arnold. But i wouldn’t be surprised if the more gullible reps signed on because of his conclusions.

they’ve become royalty,

like hollywood.

they’re ignorant of the crime caused by illegals and illegal drugs,

and the effects of these on americans.

they live behind a police security shield.

And helping criminals obtain citizenship and freebies in this country. With those kinds of concerns, Congresscritters shouldn't be surprised people absolutely despise the institution.

At least Morris is right on this one.

I wish I had HIS job though, I could be wrong 99% of the time and still get asked to come back for huge bucks.

I assume our good public servants receive 1099’s for the portion of the trips that are personal, rather than job related. </s>

Hmm we need a undo-something congress more than a do-nothing congress.

If the last thing they actually did was move tax day to election day, we would be electing people who would be fighting each other to “undo”.

An effective Congress for America would be one that meets once a year - in August - holds its meetings in a metal Quonset hut - no air conditioning or windows that open - and the daily fare at the congressional cafe would be beans, rice and dandelion salad that you pick yourself.

Oh, and bring back dueling.
