There have been controversial demands from the Muslim Council of Britain for Islamic schoolchildren to be given separate changing rooms for sports and swimming, single-sex classes for sex education, prayer rooms, new rights to Islamic worship and different uniform rules.

The National Association of Head Teachers has dismissed the demands as "completely undo-able".

Bravo!  Hopefully this principled stand won't cause the National Association of Head-Teachers' offices to be firebombed.

Many parents would agree on that. Sex education is ever more specific, and delievered to very young children. At least dividing the children into boys and girls for separate classes gives some grounds to modesty.

I don’t see anything wrong with allowing students to wear “burkinis”, provide they pay for their own and do not demand that everyone else wear one.

I find it interesting the Brits are finally getting a bit of a spine and saying "No", perhaps they have a small chance...

Once again we have a religion demanding changes to accommodate their cultural norms rather than the other way around to assimilate into the culture.

Here in the US this is even more so evident at a sport that is high end and at the margins if you will, figure skating.

It is in an arena such as this you get to see the melting pot in action. Kids of diverse cultures come and excel at this sport, it truly is an example of how legal immigration works and once given freedom the desire to succeed is finally allowed to surface and that it is at the heart of all men. It is just that many cultures and political systems do not let it rise to the surface. On a sad note, of all the ice skating competitions I have attended in the mid-west in the last 5 years or so, I have only seen ONE competitor obviously of the muslim faith in fully covered outfit. If we look to the margins as a microcosm of what is occurring in regards to assimilation, from my non scientific observations, much work is yet to be done. On the flip side of that coin does this faith have to look inward and have a reformation and rethink all their rules that are an increasingly a source of friction with host countries and cultures that they are hell bent on wedging into in their image.

I have no problem whatsoever with Muslim women wanting to be modest while swimming, That's their free choice.

The burkini was designed by an Australian after a group of lifeguards began a drive to recruit more Islamic lifeguards, particularly women, following violent clashes in 2005 between Lebanese Muslim teenagers and white Australians on Sydney's Cronulla beach.

This pisses me off! Instead of appeasing these teenagers, they should have ARRESTED THEM.
