A quick shot to the head and the officer could have had a lot of venison.

He probably was afraid he’d have to fill out 40 pages
of paperwork if he fired his weapon,

I have forgotten how to post gannett and if I screwed up can sidebar please fix it.

Interesting story.....brings up a nice Crash the movie hodgepodge of cultural shifts and friction.

Cop shoulda shot the deer...done his job. Last buck I mercy killed on Tyne Blvd here I was told by the cops to shoot it.

that was his reasoning so some workers (illegals maybe...plenty here) tried beating it to death with shovels and then went for the sledge hammer.

the 40-50 deer I’ve killed in my life were all shot...and all found too...and all woofed down

I’d be more worried about inappropriate discharge of a firearm nowadays. Public endangerment and all that.

Ran into this situation in the 80’s. Some tourist from Canada hit a deer on a lonely road and I pulled up just after it happened. Poor deer had two broken legs and a totally smashed antler. I got my 30-30 out of the truck and by the time the State Trooper got there I had it half butchered.

Funny thing was the tourist were more upset that I was butchering the animal than anything else. They were totally stunned that he was not going to arrest me. The Trooper checked my drivers & hunting licenses and told me to have a nice day.

Why do I get the feeling that if I did the same thing today I would be summarily arrested.

if you’re anywhere near Nashville I would be glad to help out. I resist shooting does at camp since only me and my oldest boy eat venison.

i could give away a bunch of venison each year...and do often

We have a lot of Whitetail road jumpers around here.. I know some guys who actually got an old truck with beefed up grill guards and speed along the back roads and dusk hoping for some off season ‘hunting’..

i don’t think cops have to worry about inappropriate firearm use in a case like this

i have been given permission by them to shoot here in town...

you can actually hunt in the general services districts within nashville if so many yards (1-200) from a dwelling

Well, my dad hit a horse on dark foggy night in ‘65 and the trooper (Michigan State Police) tried to put it down. After 3 rounds through the muzzle my Dad said let me do it ya f****** moron. The trooper gave Dad his piece and he finished the poor creature with one round between the eyes. Guess the cop was too spooked to do it right, horse was thrashing, blood and innards all over the road, ironically the car was a Mustang.

Remember back a couple years wondering why an officer used his shotgun to dispatch a crazy dog. Shotgun didn’t need a full report. Rifle or pistol was more paperwork.

Shooting 1 yard from a building? Isn’t that kind of close?

What would you expect the police to do if you had a big black bear in your yard? My neighborhood is populated by many families with small children and there’s no forest around for miles. The bear was limping and looked injured but the officers refused to remove it from the area. This bear is about 250 pounds and it came right out of the hedges while my wife was cleaning the pool. I know I’m not comfortable letting my children play outside with an injured black bear roaming the neighborhood.

There are about 50-60 thousand deer killed by cars every year in Michigan and most of those just rot along the roads.

Anyone that wants them can call the cops for a free permit to pick them up.

Most times the cops will just tell you to take the deer and they mail you the permit.

Its illegal to leave the scene without the police report if you hit one but over 50% are never reported. They only count those reported.
