“Communism claimed 100 million victims,” Emil Constantinescu pointed out in the same forum that Dr. Kors addressed. “In my country, Romania, we had one million dead and one million political prisoners out of a total population of 16 million.” Constantinescu was the former President of Romania...and of course Uncle Ho added another couple of million to the total - but you'll never get any professor to admit to that......

The problem is commonplace in universities. In some parts of academia there is a tendency to confuse arrogant, self-driven utopian delusions for the pursuit of knowledge. This is evinced by the often-voiced assertion of university representatives that their institutions are engaged in the “unfettered” quest for knowledge, by which they mean their own pursuits are not subject to the humbling lessons of everyday life with its contingencies. People who make that claim simply want infinite room to navel-gaze or to play with their toys.
