When marriage became a ‘hate crime’
Jewish World Review ^ | June 25, 2007 | George Will

Marriage is the foundation of the natural family and sustains family values. That sentence is inflammatory, perhaps even a hate crime.

At least it is in Oakland, Calif. That city's government says those words italicized here constitute something akin to hate speech, and can be proscribed from the government's open e-mail system and employee bulletin board.

When the McCain-Feingold law empowered government to regulate the quantity, content and timing of political campaign speech about government, it was predictable that the right of free speech would increasingly be sacrificed to various social objectives that free speech supposedly impedes. And it was predictable that speech suppression would become an instrument of cultural combat, used to settle ideological scores and advance political agendas by silencing adversaries.

That has happened in Oakland. And, predictably, the ineffable 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has ratified this abridgement of First Amendment protections. Fortunately, overturning the 9th Circuit is steady work for the U.S. Supreme Court.

Some African-American Christian women working for Oakland's government organized the Good News Employee Association (GNEA), which they announced with a flier describing their group as "a forum for people of Faith to express their views on the contemporary issues of the day. With respect for the Natural Family, Marriage and Family Values." The flier was distributed after other employees' groups, including those advocating gay rights, had advertised their political views and activities on the city's e-mail system and bulletin board.

When the GNEA asked for equal opportunity to communicate by that system and that board, they were denied. Furthermore, the flier they posted was taken down and destroyed by city officials, who declared it "homophobic" and disruptive. The city government said the flier was "determined" to promote harassment based on sexual orientation. The city warned that the flier and communications like

Sounds like a bunch of hissy white homosexual "men" trying to keep Christian sisters from testifying. Where oh where are the Revs Al and Jesse on THIS ONE?

Well at least the city fathers (... er... and mothers-considering the state of political correctness in Oakland, such a gaffe might well land me in jail) of Oakland have contrived the world's first truly democratic law. It is a work of genius: every man ( or in this case, every lesbian) gets to write his own statute. What could be more democratic?

Actually, this formulation is not new from these libs. The Femmi-Nazis discovered some time ago that, in single stroke, they could literally expropriate the employment environment and the courtroom merely by defining sexual-harassment to be what ever an affronted female says distresses her.

We have enshrined subjectivism and made it writ.

I seem to recall that the opinion of “a reasonable woman” was required by that law. Which prompted some interesting responses.

These days, those who accuse others of hate speech are usually themselves engaged in hate speech.

Perhaps the phrase "the city eunuchs" would be more politically correct.

The Supremes will pitch this.

You can prohibit all political discussion, but you can’t allow some and prohibit others.

So what's next?

Homosexual activists will move to strike down the law that forbids out-of-staters from marrying in Massachusetts. Homosexual "couples" from out of state will get married in MA. They will bring suit in federal court to have their "marriages" recognized in their own states. They will win.

The question is whether this decision will be upheld by the SCOTUS. If it is, government schools will be all homo ed, all the time.

and your last statement about the schools is the correct answer to the question, “how does gay Marriage effect you”. Never before was a sexual minority granted unfettered access to OTHER people’s children

And parents, in a last ditch effort to retain control of their God-given responsibility to teach their children right moral values will yank their kids out of government schools and homeschool them instead.

The Left (er. now wanna be called “Progressive”) will move to outlaw homeschooling because it “perpetuates” “social stigmas” and “fosters and atmosphere of non-inclusivity”.

Dunno about Rev. Al, but Rev. Jesse was off in Daleygrad getting his butt arrested, picketing a gun shop.

Nicely said. Similar justifications using big words probably were used to show Jews, etc were subhumans and extermination was merely showing wisdom and compassion towards Mother Earth.
