“40% reject the argument that random chance caused it all.”

Probably much more than 40% reject the argument that random chance caused it all, as most people who believe that evolution is a well founded theory do not believe that it proceeds through random chance.

Certainly Darwin did not believe so, but pontificated on how natural selection was the actual mechanism.

You people are so daft with this "evolution is not random because it requires natural selection" balogna. Fact: evolution is based upon random mutation, the most fit of which is then selected by non-random, natural selection processes. There is a big difference. Evolution causes a pool of pure randomness and then the best of the random is selected. Just because the most fit of several options is selected doesn't take away from the fact that all of those options were generated randomly.
