[South Texas: Mexican Truck]FATAL CRASH Expressway wreck kills one, disrupts traffic

McALLEN — A passenger riding in the cab of a semitrailer died after it rolled over on Expressway 83 near Jackson Road on Thursday afternoon, police said.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash, which happened about 3 p.m., said McAllen police spokesman Sgt. Joel Morales.

The driver of the truck, which police say had Mexican license plates and was not towing a load, was transported to McAllen Medical Center.

The crash took place just in front of the Boggus Ford dealership near the on-ramp.

Expressway 83 westbound lanes between Sugar Road and Jackson Road were closed, as was the westbound frontage road between Business 83 and Jackson Avenue.

Traffic was diverted to Business 83 while emergency responders cleared the scene.

Police also closed the Expressway 83 on-ramp between Jackson and Sugar roads.

Morales said an autopsy has been ordered for the dead passenger. Mexican authorities must be notified of the crash before the names of the two men involved can be publicly released, he said.

It’s unclear whether slick roads due to Thursday’s rain showers played a role in the crash. Morales said no other vehicles were involved.

Wonder if Mexico pays the Medical Center and autopsy bills? (/s)

just in front of the Boggus Ford dealership

I know it's a little off topic but, what an unfortunate name.

Represented by the Crook law firm. I am not making this up. When I lived in El Paso there was a prominent lawyer there named Jim Crook, who headed up the Crook law firm. Every time I think about it I giggle.

I must be missing something, how is a car accident a topic for this forum?

It’s not like he was hauling a trailer full of illegal immigrants.

This one went right over my head.

That’s one way to get free medical care. While he’s in hospital he might as well have his galbladder and appendix removed and get lasik in case he needs glasses. Hey doc, while you’re at it, give the man a colonoscopy and endoscopy and check him for sleep apnia.

Not sure, just guessing it was in reference to the border opening up for goods to be transported by Mexican truck drivers as part of the NAFTA program or in some way or another.

Did the driver have Mexican license plates after the wreck. I'm assuming the license plates were on the truck before the wreck. I know, I know.......it's just very poorly written.

I find it of interest that the events took place in front of Boggus ford. What is that—a fiat?
