BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A 15-year-old girl faces a preliminary murder charge after she fatally stabbed her mother's boyfriend following a fight over what television show to watch, police said.
According to officers, the girl and her twin sister were at home when an altercation with Michael Lewis, 38, got out of hand, 6News' Ben Morriston reported.
"There was some argument about what was going to be watched on television," said Bloomington police Capt. Joe Qualters. "The argument was furthered when the victim allegedly kicked the family's dog. He then left the residence and was pushed down outside by one of the 15-year-old girls."
According to police, Lewis hit the girl in the face. The girl's twin intervened in the struggle, but her sister came out of the house with a knife.
"The first sister ... got around her, moved toward the victim and eventually stabbed him in the chest," Qualters said.
The girl ran to the home of Christopher Robertson, her neighbor.
"She was frantic, out of her mind. I don't even think she realized what she had done," Robertson said. "She was like, 'Oh my God, I stabbed Mike,'" Robertson said.
Lewis died from his wound. When police arrived, both girls were arrested.
"When officers arrived, the first sister was being taken into custody. She resisted," Qualters said. "The sister struck one of the officers in the head. So, she will be charged with battery on a police officer."
The girl accused in the stabbing is housed in the Johnson County Juvenile Detention Center.
The Monroe County prosecutor wants her tried as an adult. She will have a detention hearing later this week.
The other twin is at a Knox County juvenile facility.
And kicks the family dog? And punches his girlfriend's daughter in the face?
Of course, this story leaves out way too many details -- such as what show did the deceased want to watch and what show did the girls want to watch?
Misleading headline - he got stabbed for kicking a dog and punching a girl in the face.
...and who was holding the remote.
I bet it was about a lot more than a TV show. I’ve read statistics that most so-called domestic violence and a whole lot of child abuse is from shack-ups, not from spouses. This guy may have a history of being abusive (kicked the dog, hit the girl in the face).
for my analysis, I will need to know the names of the shows.
yea and God’s know what else
Couldn’t agree on watching Jerry Springer or Montell
They should let her go.
It is perfectly legal for wives and girls to kill men.
Oh... but then she hit a police officer... hmmm... complicated.
Sadly, another victim of “American Idol” slips into folklore............
The victim KICKED the family dog.
Why kick the dog?
I'm more inclined to believe that the violence against the dog was what escalated the situation, not the argument. Also, notice the twins stayed together in the situation. They were both attacking him. Something was very wrong here long before the girl picked up the knife.
If these girls don't have any prior history of violence, who would like to place bets that the "boyfriend" of the Mom was an abusive creep?

For once the boyfriend bites the dust. Usually it’s the mother or kids who are the victims.
We can rule out his wanting to watch Lassie or Rin Tin Tin.
Depends on what the show is...some shows that 15 year olds may want to watch, parents may not approve of, he may have merely been enforcing his girlfriend’s rules. It actually sounds like he did the right thing by walking away when things got heated, to avoid a physical confrontation. A 15 year old is old enough to know that she can kill someone with a knife, her age should be no excuse.
Indeed.
My guess: layabout boyfriend living off of this girl's mother thinks he can order his girlfriends' kids around.
When they give him the "Who the **** are you? You're not my father!" spiel he leaves, but kicks the dog to act tough.
Angry about the dog, one runs after him and shoves him - he punches her in the face. The other comes out with a kitchen knife and the rest is history.
Did you possibly miss the part where he walked out and the girls followed him and attacked him? He may have hit her in self defense. Although, there was no excuse for kicking the dog.
