I eat cold German Potato Salad - oil/vinegar. When growing up I was shocked to see that there was “American” Potato Salad! I still prefer the German style.
My mom was of German descent and she made both. Her American potato salad takes me back to our end of school year picnics. When it was time to eat we kids couldn’t wait to have her potato salad. Of course, her German potato salad was absolutely delicious and to die for. She just flat out made delicious potato salads both American and German. Actually, she was just a flat out good cook period. She cooked Italian food all the time too as my dad’s descendants were from Italy and she made the best spaghetti and meatballs I have ever tasted. :)
My man! I prefer German potato salad. No mayo to go bad if you leave it out all afternoon at the pot-luck.

Not just German- French potato salad is with O&V as well. And you are right, with O&V is much better, although I do like both potato salad and coleslaw with mayo.
Add some grilled ribs and corn and you’re all set.

German, American, or whatever - I love all potato salad! I even like the canned potato salad. Most people probably think that is awful. I love it all ways...hot, cold, vinegary, creamy, egg in it, paprika on top.....mmmmmmm!
