“Just 22% Favor Stalled Immigration Bill”

Jorge would interpret this statistic to be “70 million Americans can’t be wrong”!

send out fundraising letters that are falling on deaf ears.

I got another one today. It went back sans dollars and on their stamp. AND I told ‘em why!

I got one too, and wrote in BIG BLACK SHARPIE ‘Where’s the FENCE?’ and sent it back sans dollars and stamp, also.

If this bill passes, the Republican Party will cease to exist. And based on these poll numbers, the same may be true of the Democratic Party.

“....Except when Rasmussen says something we DON’T agree with.

Then it’s just a useless poll.”

Well, polling companies to tend to have a bit of a liberal slant, which makes these poll numbers all the more significant. I’d be willing to bet that this 22 percent is actually a few points higher than reality, and that if more Americans knew how truly destructive this bill is that the approval numbers would be in the single digits.

Let’s assume this bill is good and we are just stupid as our so-called leaders seem to think. Even if that were true, and it isn’t, these people are not acting like leaders. If they were responsible they would recognize that to push such measures on a population which is so opposed to it is dangerous and foments future unrest between the citizens and the newly made legals. Leadership requires convincing us FIRST, which should not be difficult if it is really so very good and necessary. Listen closely and you will hear many people say things like, “I am BURNED up”. This is a foreshadowing. Senators please LISTEN.

We are dangerously close to civil war—or even revolution. I am simply stunned at how politically tone-deaf the professional politicians appear to be. At the very least, 2008 will make 1994 seem like a non-event (and it’s not clear at this point who the winners will be.)

Dear Senator Webb,

If you plan on voting YES on cloture, and the Immigration Bill happens to end up passing, despite your NO vote on the Final Bill, there will be a heavy political price to pay.

Voting Yes on Cloture is akin to winning a second spin when you are playing Russian Roulette. Winning a second spin is a second chance for you to kill yourself.

Since Cloture requires 60 votes to proceed; that affords each of you Senators the very best chance to kill this very flawed legislation that the American public doesn’t want in the first place.

No amount of amendments, set for discussion, are going to fix this bill so why even waste the Senate’s valuable time discussing them. If the bil fails, it is what the American public wants; however, if the bill passes, a lot of you are going to pay one heck of a price for even allowing it to get to a final vote.

Why not just kill this bill at the Cloture vote, by voting NO on Cloture up front, and avoid the chance of something very bad happening. The American public is already very incensed at your complete disregard for what they want. Think of what their reaction will be should this bill pass.

Americans want Border Security. Nothing More! Nothing Less!! Nothing Else!!

When, and if, you Senators achieve that, Americans will be more amenable to other measures to deal with our Illegal Immigrant problem.

To do anything else in the interim, without the border being secured, would only invite a flood of illegals to cross the border to capitalize on the gift of Amnesty, and you all know what I am saying is true. And you also know that they will all be able too produce whatever paperwork is required to prove that they were here before January 1, 2007. What’s one, or two, more pieces of counterfeit paperwork when that is what they have been doing for years. You will just be helping to promote the counterfeiting business, and you know it.

So let’s all just stop pretending what is, and what isn’t, and admit to what is right, and what is wrong.

It’s wrong for somewhere between 12, and 30, million undocumented illegal immigrants to be in our country, and you all know that to be true.

You can’t pass a bill that will effectively double the number of Low-income Americans, when the low income Americans are already dependent on too many social programs that the rest of us are paying for. We American Taxpayers don’t need, and don’t want, this extra burden.

What we want is for you Senators to pass legislation that secures the border.

Nothing More! Nothing Less! Nothing Else!!!

VOTE NO ON CLOTURE!!!!

Sincerely,

This bill has the potential to be the modern equivalent of the Kansas-Nebraska Act (which led to the collapse of the Whig Party and the rise of the Republican Party) in terms of rearranging the party landscape in America.

That could result in something worse than the current situation (where the Republican Party is the lesser of two evils, except when the two parties are equally bad), so I wouldn't put any hopes in something better emerging if the Republican Party breaks up. Maybe if there were some charismatic conservative leaders around of the stature of a Ronald Reagan, but I don't see any...at least not among current Congressmen, Senators, and governors.

Good letter. Hope you don’t mind that I used part of it to send to Barbara Boxhead of California.

But the vast majority of the people agree on this. So it'd be us against the Washington elite?

CB, I’ll call her L.A. and D.C. offices first thing in the morning, and will keep trying until I get through. I imagine (hope) they’re all getting thousands of calls.
