The guys feel uncomfortable antime they have to go beyond the Appalachians or south of Chapel Hill—their country. Not for nothing do they call the land between the Coasts as “Fly-over Countrry.”

Beyond the Appalachians? Jeez, the Hinterlands start on the west shore of the Hudson River!

I was in Bethleham, PA, at Lehigh U. back in 1969. That place might have been a million miles from NYC. I had a hard time cashing a travelee’s check in a local store where I bought a window fan for the dorm. My wife is from West Virginia, so believe me I knew Appalachia when I saw it. Yes, from my bus ride to the City I saw how close the mountains came to the Hudson.
