Shocker! Bloomberg Quits Republicans (Joseph Farah On The New York City RINO Turned Turncoat Alert)
W ^ | 06/26/2007 | Joseph Farah

Posted on 06/25/2007 10:41:23 PM PDT by goldstategop

Stop the presses!

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has officially quit the Republican Party!

I couldn't believe it.

Why am I so shocked?

I was surprised to learn he was a member of the Republican Party.

I was surprised to learn the party of Ronald Reagan would permit him to join.

I was surprised to learn that, having made such as mistake in associating with the likes of Michael Bloomberg, the Republican Party didn't have enough discretion to quit him first!

This guy's record is remarkable only in its extremist divergence from any principle ever held – in word and deed – by the Republican Party.

* He's for same-sex marriage;

* He's for abortion on demand;

* He thinks the First Amendment affords U.S. citizens "the privilege" of freedom of speech and freedom of assembly;

* He banned smoking in most restaurants;

* Under his leadership, only 18 percent of New York City high school students get diplomas;

* He doesn't think the Second Amendment means what it says;

* He's for every silly and fanciful notion of "diversity" and "multiculturalism" and "tolerance" and "sissyhood" you can imagine…

You get the idea.

In short, he's a bored billionaire dilettante who feels a sense of entitlement to rule over less-enlightened people. So, now he wants to run for president – as an independent. You can't do that if you are a registered Republican and holding office as one. Therefore, the old switcheroo.

How serious is this guy about politics?

Well, let us boil it down to dollars and cents.

He spent $73 million of his own money to win his first race for mayor in 2001 – just his own money!

Officially, he'll tell you, he's not a candidate for president. Officially, he'll tell you it's preposterous to even consider the possibility. Officially, he's not even exploring the idea.

"A short, Jewish billionaire from New York?" Bloomberg told William Safire when asked about a run. "C'mon."

But, in fact, he is running.

He's worth more than $5 billion personally, which means he could spend $1 billion of his own money and compete head to head in dollars and cents with the Democrat and the Republican candidate. If the New York mayor's office was worth $73 million to Bloomberg, do you think the White House is not worth $1 billion?

Actually, I knew all along that Bloomberg wasn't officially a Republican. A lifelong Democrat, he joined the Republicans because he knew it would be easier to get the Republican nomination to run for mayor of New York than the Democrat nomination. He was right.

Call it a marriage of convenience with the GOP.

Consider it officially annulled.

Now it is more expedient to become president of the United States if you're an independent. So Bloomberg has become an independent.

But it does raise an interesting question: Should political parties have some minimal standards for membership? Should they actually stand for something? If they don't stand for something, what's the point? And if the Republican Party did, in fact, stand for something, why did it permit itself to be used so shamelessly by the likes of Bloomberg?

Is party politics just about numbers?

Is it just about money?

Is there any sense of principle involved at all?

Michael Bloomberg, the New York City RINO turned turncoat. It says lot about the GOP, not as a party of principle, but as a vehicle of political convenience for egocentric liberal billionaires and their Nanny State agendas. There's a lesson here somewhere.

“Is there any sense of principle involved at all?”
“...Michael Bloomberg, the New York City RINO...”

It’s about the leadership of the Republican Party. It’s gone left, been infiltrated by the Liberal/Nihilist/Socialists as was the demise of the Democrat Party.

There is a target. Not one we see immediately, but if we look reeeeeeeeeeeeeaal hard we might be able to see it as it slips off the edge of the cliff with a large hairy hooved kick in its hind end...

Target Conservatives.

If he chose to call himself a Republican, what were we supposed to do about it?

Kick him out! There's his other RINO pal, Arnold Schwarzennegger in California. Birds of a feather flock together, especially when they are liberals.

Know the difference between “Republican” and “Conservative”.

He was a screamin’ Liberal long before he was a “Republican”.

Bloomberg is an intelligent guy with an interesting personality and might get a cult following much like Donald Trump. As a businessman, he is savvy and I admire that trait in him. If he runs, he will use his own money and can attract liberals and conservatives alike. His politics, though, is meh.

I think he sounds like a braying jackass every time he opens his mouth. Maybe the guy’s got street cred in business, but I don’t take him seriously as a politician. If he’s funny, witty or charming let him get a talk show like everybody else in the country.

I doubt that he will draw Republican votes. He doesn’t even have the juice that Perot had with conservatives.

“I know Ross Perot, Mr. Bloomberg! And you, sir, are no 3 and a half foot ego maniacal midget from Texas!”

Bloomberg quit so he could be drafted by the democrats because the democrats know, that if Rudy runs, hillary and obama are dead meat. The deal has already been made, Bloomberg is just setting himself up for the draft.

By New York City standards, Bloomberg was actually a "conservative" -- if you can believe that.

The day this country ever elects some @sshole from this leftist city to the White House is the day I go back to Alberta.

What did he do to make 5 billion$? Or did he inherit and invest wisely?

OK, now that's just the craziest thing I've ever read on this site.

Hell no. There's a reason the party is called the Stupid Party.

And, Buck Floomberg.

Quite sincerely, 'Pod.

Can you show me a nice neighborhood out that way? I may head there, too, if this Julie Annie dick is the republican nominee.

Do you write for the onion or scrappleface? NO? I didn't think so, becuause they are funny, and their satire has an air of believability to it.

I hope you’ll excuse my ignorance, but is there a formal mechanism for ejecting a RINO from membership in the GOP?

Republican legislator set to switch parties

By Jeff Long and Monique Garcia

June 26, 2007

A Republican state legislator from Schaumburg plans to announce Tuesday that he is switching parties, which would add to the Democratic majority in the Illinois House.

“After being in the minority for five years, with no prospects of that changing, I think I can more effectively represent my district being in the majority,” Rep. Paul Froehlich said in a phone interview Monday night.

Froehlich has set a news conference for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Schaumburg Township Hall in Hoffman Estates to discuss his decision.

Democrats hold a 66-52 majority in the House.

Republicans said Monday that they had not heard directly from Froehlich, 56, but he has talked with Democratic leaders about his plans. Schaumburg Township Democratic Committeeman Rocco Terranova said he met Monday with Froehlich.

GOP stalwart lauds Obama in TV ads
Hinsdale’s Dillard showcased in Iowa

By Rick Pearson and John McCormick
Tribune staff reporters

June 26, 2007

Sen. Barack Obama’s Democratic presidential campaign said Monday that it is launching television ads in the early caucus state of Iowa, including one that features a prominent DuPage County Republican who has been questioned by members of his own party for his strong touting of Obama’s skills.

State Sen. Kirk Dillard (R-Hinsdale), a friend of Obama’s from his days in Springfield, tells viewers that Obama was respected on both sides of the political aisle during his time in the Illinois General Assembly.

“His negotiation skills and an ability to understand both sides would serve the country very well,” he says in one of two advertisements Obama’s campaign will start airing statewide on.. excerpt
