You might want to check out Captain Ed’s take on this.

Thanx for the link BB.

The Capt's quarter analysis puts the source in perspective but doesn't refute the fact that Iranian arms and people are killing Coalition Troops IN Iraq.

Interesting, the Sun publishing this though.

Also, the Sun article raises a question from the following statement;

"We have hard proof that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps have crossed the border to attack us. It is very hard for us to strike back. All we can do is try to defend ourselves. We are badly on the back foot."

The reference to "us"? Is "us" the Britt's or "us" Coalition Forces?

I think Iran is trying to run ALL Coalition Forces out of Iraq.

It does make you wonder what the heck the media is up to though.

That’s a good article ... given the source, what we probably have here is the Sun blowing up a story that has been reported before, that small Iranian IRGC units are moving back and forth, making contact with Shia and other insurgent groups, providing arms and training, etc.

The Sun has taken this small unit movement and blown it up as a full scale Iranian invasion.

It has been widely reported that Iran is involved in some aspects of the Iraqi insurgency ... and given the political realities, it makes sense for them to be. Since we are a threat to them and we are now next door, it is in their interest to make Iraq as much of a thorn in our side as they can.

Is this a cause for war? Yeah, it is ... they are waging proxy war against us and by default are responsible for the death and injury of many American troops.

The question is, does this mean we should to go to war directly against Iran? We’ve done the same thing Iran is doing to us in the past. By the same justification the Soviet Union could have declared war on us over Afganistan. We were providing arms and training to kill Soviet soldiers and airmen, we had people over there, esp in Pakistan helping the Afghani insurgency. And, the Soviets would have been justified in doing something about it ... but the cost in doing so was to high for them. They didn’t want a full scale war with us over Pakistan that probably would have spilled over. But, that was a superpower thing, they did the same to us in Vietnam. It was part of the Cold War “game.” Both sides shed the others blood by proxy and we both tolerated it because doing something about it would have been to costly and risky.

But, Iran isn’t a superpower. They are using the same tactics .... so it’s hard to muster up to much “righteous indignation” when what they are doing is in their strategic interest and given they are doing what we’ve done in the past. That said, it is still an act of war by proxy and is justification for action ... if we’re willing to do it. Unlike in the past, though, we’re not dealing with another superpower .... we’re more dealing with a two bit smartalek that’s just “tugging on superman’s cape.” They’re calculating that given our domestic political situation and the price of oil we won’t do anything about it. They know that if they’re wrong we will crush them ... but they’re gambling that we won’t.

We need to prove them wrong.
