Tony Blair is to become a Middle East envoy working on behalf of the US, Russia, the UN and the EU. The announcement comes just hours after he stood down as UK prime minister and shortly before he is expected to quit as a Member of Parliament.
Earlier, Mr Blair said a "solution" to problems in the Middle East was possible but that this would require "huge intensity and work".

When I was a kid (in the 70’s), everyone wanted to be an astronaut or President of the United States.
Now, being an astronaut doesn’t mean anything, since we won’t be going into space any time soon, thanks to all the concerns we have down here, which is a shame. The space shuttle basically bounces up and down into orbit, for reasons that are beyond me, and their experiments sound more and more like they’re taking bar bets.
As for being President, who in their right mind would want to put up with the daily abuse, and nonsense that’s in poilitics. Seriously, I bet every human that gets elected to any office gets a visit from the suits on day one that tell them what to do. Like the mafia.
Now, that being said— Middle East Envoy of Peace? Give me a break. Good luck with that.(and watch your back)
First task in new job is to punch Jimmy Carter in the nose the first chance he gets.

Huh?? That’s to suggest that the US, Russia, the UN and the EU have are the same side when it comes to the Middle East. Sounds like a government make-work job...how fitting for a former Labor Party member.
...and waiting in the wings is Bill Clinton to take U.N. Sec’y Gen’ls job...NOW step back and look once again at the overall picture. The players are moving into position.
I thought Tony Blair was worthy of being president of the EU. On the surface, this appears to be quite a comedown for the PM.
“...the only way of bringing stability and peace to the Middle East is a two-state solution.”
I couldn’t agree more with Blair. I think he’s a good choice.
I wish him all the luck in the world in his new position. He’s going to need it. But I hope he is able to make some progress. I think he might be able to.
Just a little info for you.
Perhaps the final nail in Blairs coffin was the fact he refused to criticise israel in the war last year.
Shortly after that ended, the coup against hi, began and he was forced to ‘sort of’ name the date.
While perhaps not as strong as the average president, he has been perhaps the most pro israel PM since churchill.
