since April/May is the time of year when many states mandate the switch to ethanol-based fuel for the summer months.

And this has been happening for how many years?

Try reading it again. I added one item to you item, and “neither” refers to both. Sheesh.

Instead of spending your time cheerleading for the world’s most idiotic fuel source (our food supply), get back to school and study english for awhile.

I did not include your rantings in my response. My statement regarded biomass. Your other nonsense wasn’t worthy of a reply.

You're right. I live in a suburban area. Irrespective, I have no desire to pay more to some farmer, individual or corporate, just because some Congress critter tells me to do so.

I’ve been living under and ethanol mandate for about a decade or more. I’ve experienced the loss of power, fuel economy, and higher prices personally. I know why it’s a crappy fuel from FIRST HAND experience with it. That’s why I work to expose the truth about it.

OK...Has anyone seen a gas station that sells ethanol? I haven't seen one in Northwest Florida yet...Where are they?

The federal government is mandating that all unleaded fuel have a certain amount of ethanol in it (I belive 10% - 15%) as an oxygenator and to increase the octane level. In addition to that, there are some "flex-fuel" pumps available at some stations, which sell "E85" which is 85% ethanol and 15% unleaded gasoline.

“Higher gas prices = higher transport fees for everything including feed.”

The BNSF and UP railroads are currently adding a 15.5 % fuel sucharge on all railcar movements across country.

This adds approximately $750 just to go from the west coast to Chicago.
The cost is passed onto everything you buy anywhere in the country.

It is a start, after all we pay farmers not to plant crops. And also we neeed to take a hard look at other ways to get ethanol from other sources.

I added one item to you item...

Shouldn't that read "I added one item to your item..."? I have no way to tell whether that is a typo or a genuine grammatical error, although I strongly suspect the former. So...let's go easy on the ad hominem attacks.

That’s why I work to expose the truth about it.

Then turn off the idiot box and learn something about it before you go ranting and raving and sounding like a loon. There are some serious issues with ethanol, regardless of how it is produced, that you are not going to learn about on some TV show.

It’s a start? At what? Ruining the country?

If ethanol is a solution, it should be viable without government mandates or subsidies. Guess what, it isn’t.

The only reason you should pay a farmer anything is if you were buying a product he produced. This is, by the way, exactly how farmers are paid for their corn.

Just the last couple of years, if I remember correctly. Ethanol was adopted as a fuel additive after MTBE was basically outlawed a few years ago.

Holy crap, I posted one link from a TV show that produces a concise report on the truth about ethanol, and you act like it’s the only thing I’ve ever seen on ethanol.

As someone who has been FORCED to buy ethanol infused gas for years and years, I know more about it than most. I’ve got bookmarks out the wazoo from various sources. I’ve added “ethanol” to numerous keywords here on free republic.

Get off your freaking high horse. You haven’t added one bit of actual knowledge to this debate as far as I can see.

So tell me, how long have you lived under a government mandate of ethanol usage?

You say you are actually “doing something” about fuel production. What are you doing????

The family farm is not dead and gone. Right across the street there is a family farm on 1.5 acres. Two horses. They call it the Tax Farm. Two houses down is another just like it but the barn is fancier than most houses around here. There’s two family farms right there.
