How More Ethanol Means Pricier Pizza

Rising Prices for Corn Drives Up Cost of Milk and Other Dairy Products

Milk may do a body good, but these days it's probably your wallet that gets the big workout.

Dairy products have become more expensive, causing prices to rise for some of America's favorite foods, from ice cream to chocolate to pizza.

Over the past two months, the average price for a gallon of whole milk is $3.26, up 19 cents. And that's causing an economic chain reaction.

Among those hit the hardest are people like John Esposito, who owns Sal's Pizza in New York. A slice used to cost $2.15, but he's ready to raise the price to $2.30. Esposito anticipates he'll be charging $2.40 a slice soon.

"It might go even higher than that," he said.

Dairy prices are rising because the price of corn is going up, thanks to greater demand for the corn-based fuel ethanol.

You all are just ignorant. Ethanol isn’t raising the price of anything. It’s a miracle fuel. Do you people want us beholden to the A-rabs forever? Do you want our planet polluted?

There is no extra cost. Besides, farmers deserve more money for their corn. But their is no extra cost. Don’t you like farmers???

Anybody that questions ethanol hates America!!!

(Did I hit all the talking points?)

You can get E85 here now. E10 is fairly common.

By farmers, do you mean the big multi-nationals that own most of the farmland?

It is probably in your gas in some amount just as a replacement for MTBE. I don’t think anyone is using that any more.

I believe that outside of major cities you probably will not find any stations selling ethanol...

Probably not, except it most likely will be in the fuel as an MTBE replacement. Finding biodiesel is not that hard in the rural areas...but that makes sense.

That’s right... destroy all the soil in the country so that we can extract energy from the ground via corn.

I have no Idea whether Ethanol is good or bad, but it sounds like most of these news stories are ignoring the real culprit here, which also makes me think that the Oil companies have a hand in most of these negative stories about oil substitutes.

Wasn't it just last week that they threatened to raise gas prices if Ethanol or any other oil substitute, production was started in earnest?

The real culprit for the increase in prices for food and just about anything else right now is,.. Drum roll please... Higher gas prices.. I.E. almost $1.00 more per gallon then they were just a few months ago.

Higher gas prices = higher transport fees for everything including feed.
