lol Engines, nacelle’s and wing design - leading edge in particular were the item that are claimed to be stolen by the Soviets. The primary test pilot was of Russian heritage. And i do believe that NAA used some “research” in their designs.

“”What is certain is that the Canadian taxpayer will, once again, end up supporting the U.S. defence industry,” writes Mr. Byers, a University of British Columbia international law professor.”

Its a small price to pay in gratitude for the US subsidizing Canada’s entire national defense since WW II. Who paid for most of the DEW line? Who’s forces in Alaska would bear the brunt of a Soviet strike against North America? Who’s Navy did most of the work in securing the Atlantic against the Soviet Fleet?

Well, Mr. Byers?

“I wonder which of the configurations of the JSF the Canadian military is drooling over...”

The USAF version. Its the cheapest, and Canada doesn’t have carriers, or need VSTOL capability.

“Actually if anybody stole the CF-105 Arrow design it was probably the boys at North American Aviation for the F-108 Rapier”

IIRC, the XB-70/XF-108 program predated the Arrow program . And your logic is right in a roundabout kind of way...much of the Mig-25’s design was from copied A-5 Vigilante designs, another North American design. But I can definitely see traces of the Arrow in there too.

The primary test pilot was Jan Zurakowski a Polish Air Force pilot who escaped to the West after the Germans invaded Poland from the west and the Soviets invaded it from the east.

He made his way to Britain and became a pilot for the RAF along with other Free Polish aircrew. He fought in the Battle of Britain.

His family had been residents of that part of Poland that became part of Russia in 1920 (when Jan was six years old) causing his family to escape to the remainder of the country that was still Poland.

He was among many Polish military officers who escaped not only the German occupation but also the Soviet occupation and who never returned to Poland, preferring to live free as Commonwealth citizens rather than to live under communism in their native Poland.

Nope. RCAF's Final Report of the All-Weather Interceptor Requirements Team was submitted to Avro Canada in March 1952.

The NAGPAW (North Amercan General Purpose Attack Weapon) program (A-5 Vigilante) dates from late 1954.

The US Airforce Air Research and Develoiment Command issued the requirement WS-110A (the XB-70) in February 1955.

Canadians were first.
