Let’s take the long view - capitalism will democratize the population from within - it’s inevitable. The more the oppressed experience economic advances and economic freedom, the more pure political freedoms they will desire and achieve. World-wide communications - radio, teleivsion, internet and even just a phone - will hasten the achievement of individual freedom, even in Red China.

I don’t have your optimism.

Fascist Germany allowed capitalism and the private ownership of property, provided these vehicles were used to carry out the interests of the state as defined by the state.

These mandates were carried out by legions of fascist functionairies that visited businesses and demanded that owners follow state decrees. The orders were contradictory and in many cases non-sensical. Business owners took to studying Marxism in hopes of pleasing the bureaucrats who issued blizzards of regulations daily, which could change from day to day.

The horror of the fascist system that overlaid Germany’s private enterprise is recounted in the book titled “The Vampire Economy.”
