HARTFORD - Gov. M. Jodi Rell on Tuesday vetoed a bill that would have reduced tuition at state colleges and universities for children of illegal immigrants.
The Republican governor wrote in her veto message that while she sympathizes with the needs of children brought illegally to this country by their parents, Connecticut should not encourage illegal immigration.

My ancestors came here in 1640 and I paid on my student loan for 11 years after I graduated college.
Apparently, membership no longer has its privileges.

The argument by the illegal lobby is that legal residents pay in-state tuition, while illegal residents who live in-state are forced to pay out-of-state tuition - and that this is somehow unfair.
They are foreign students, and they need to pay foreign student tuition.

I am 64 and will be paying on my two children's’ loans for the rest of my life or thirty years, whichever comes first. If I die first the loan is forgiven by the Govt. I can pretty well assume I will die first. At least I will smile with my last breath knowing that I got back a little that I sent them over my life.

Don’t most out of state students move in state to go to schools in that state?

Will somebody explain to me why children of illegal aliens (most of whom are dangerous or just trash) should get reduced tuition just because their parents choose to break our laws?
To: Blood of Tyrants
It’s not that easy. Your child would have to demonstrate that he or she is self-supporting, get a driver’s license from the new state, register to vote in the new state, etc. The new state wants you to prove that you didn’t come there just to get in-state tuition.

Dont most out of state students move in state to go to schools in that state? Yep - that's one reason why some states have longer residency requirements than others.

Then shouldn’t they make the illegals prove that THEY didn’t move to the state just to get in state tuition for THEIR kids?
