Outgoing President Moshe Katsav signed a plea agreement with state prosecutors Thursday, according to which rape charges will be dropped from the indictment against him, and he will not be sentenced to an active prison term.
In addition, the president will submit his resignation to Knesset Speaker Dalia Itzik on Friday, which will take effect 48 hours later.
Attorney General Menachem Mazuz announced the plea agreement in a press conference Thursday morning, saying an indictment would be filed against the president in Jersualem's Magistrates Court shortly after his resignation takes effect Sunday.
According to Mazuz, the indictment would include one count of indecent assault, adding that the count is a "serious criminal charge." The president will also be charged with sexual harassment and harassing a witness....
"The president will plead guilty to three charges and will receive a suspended sentence and be ordered to pay compensation to the complainants," said Mazuz......

No jail time in deal. Paris Hilton will end up having spent more time in jail than Katsav as it stands now.
Shimon Peres was recently elected by the Knesset and will be the new president.
