Four Republican Senators who have betrayed America are up for re-election. It is imperative that all Americans do everything we possibly can to ensure that they are not re-nominated. Three of these Senators come from preposterously red states, so we do not need fear that any controversy within the Republican party will cause their seats to go Democratic.
The traitors are:
Robert Bennett (UT) Not up for election
LARRY CRAIG. Idaho's Senate is comprised of 28 Republicans and only 7 Democrats; the House has 51 Republicans and 19 Democrats. Bush won by 40 points, twice. Clinton got only 34%.
LINDSAY GRAHAM. South Carolina is the most Republican of the deep South. Democrats seem lately incapable of breaking 41% of the vote, which is quite something, given the state is 30% black. (Immigration is one of several issues in which a majority of blacks are very hostile to the Democrat's position.) Both Houses are solidly Republican
Judd Gregg (NH) Not up for election
CHUCK HAGEL (NE) Recent polls show Chuck Hagel already trailing Nebraska Attorney General Bruning. There is a Democratic Senator, Ben Nelson, but he is actually the last, remaining conservative Democrat, which is probably why he survives as the last influential Democrat in Nebraska.
John Kyl (AZ) Not up for election
Trent Lott (MS) Not up for election
Dick Lugar (IN) Not up for election
MEL MARTINEZ (FL) Mel may be Cuban-American, but he's voting like a Mexican, and even occasionally against Cuban interests. He is a certainly far better than any Democrat who might replace him, and on issues when he's not asked to be the White House's stand-in for a Mexican, he's at least moderately conservative. A bad dust-up might wound but not kill his re-nomination, leaving him very vulnerable in a state that isn't so Republican Red, but has many Marxist Reds passing themselves off as Rednecks. It's worth it to replace him in a primary, but some care should be taken not to had the seat to a Democrat.
John McCain (AZ) Not up for election
Olympia Snowe (ME) Not up for election
Arlen Specter (PA) Not up for election
One last bum to throw out: TED STEVENS (AK) is bad on conservativism in general, and, specifically on immigration. I think he simply found the wind blowing too strong against him this issue, this time, but it appears his "No" vote was just him acting as a rat fleeing a sinking ship. Stevens is very liberal on many social issues, including being for murdering unborn babies, and is probably the 2nd most corrupt Republican, after McCain. Alaska is a very safely Republican state; voters even re-elected Lisa Murkowski (another RINO), despite outrage over the nepotism through which she took office. If Democrats couldn't beat her, they can beat no-one.
Larry Craig a traitor? howso?
Who picks the head of the RNC, anyway? How do we un-pick him?
Martinez should immediately be removed from his position as Chairman of the Republican Party for his stance on this issue, his vitriolic attacks on the grassroots members of his party. And because the American people have loudly expressed their lack of confidence in this gusano.
Who you guy going to run against Landrieu?
Jindal will be the next Guv.
We are going to run some Republican named Kennedy against Landrieu . Hopefully she will be history.
Vitter did great didn’t he? Why wasn’t Landrieu joining Vitter in this fight? Liberals.
Graham ... the LSM heir Maverick.
Another “Kennedy”in the senate?
Get rid of your liberal ‘critter first.
Isn’t it Matheson?
With Craig, the Idaho Republican machine pretty much decides who goes to Washington and Boise and unless Craig decides not to run again, he will return to the Senate.
I’ve sent him several emails telling him that he is a walking poster child for mandatory term limits and that I planned to actively campaign for anyone running against him in 2008.
That would certainly be a good start. Doubt Bennett will run again. Guess who will try to get the seat? You guessed right if you said little Jimmie boy Matheson.
Stick to the Republicans. If you bring Democrats into this thread, I can name fifty that need to go.
IMO, the worst incumbant Republican Senators up for re-election in 2008 are HAGEL (who used to be conservative but has become the Dem's FAVORITE Republican lately), COLLINS , and WARNER . Warner & Hagel are from Republican-leaning states (especially Hagel). The assumption here on FR is Warner will retire in 2008 and be replaced with Tom Davis, but he has made no announcement of the sort, so it's set in stone as much as Fred Thompson's "July 4th Presidential annoucement" was.
Another incumbant up in 2008 from a "safe" Republican state who's voting record is far worse than Graham or Craig is ol' pork-barrelling TED STEVENS of Alaska. I'd hold my nose for him in the general election but the old goat definitely needs a primary challenger to push him to the right.
The only other GOP Senator who needs to leave Washington ASAP, IMO, is JOHN SUNUNU of New Hampshire, for totally different reasons. Sununu is a reliable conservative vote but poll after poll shows this guy is toast in 2008 against a RAT. The only reason he got that seat in 2002 was by proclaiming that the incumbant Senator was unelectable and needed to step aside for a Republican that could hold the seat. Time for Sununu to take his own advice and quit while he still can.
The remaining GOP Senators may be sell outs on a handful of issues, but are generally pretty good conservative votes. People may demonize John McCain on FR as an awful RINO and hail Fred Thompson as the conservative savior of the party, but if you actually look at their voting "records" in office, there's not much difference.
